Physical Sciences challenge - Lightning as an Alternative Energy Source
We seek ideas for capture, transfer, switching and storage of electrical lighting discharges as a potential alternative energy source. The four subsystems will be judged separately and a portion of the award will be dedicated to each subsystem. Solvers are eligible to address one or more of the subsystems for the award on each. NOTE: It is recognized that a full system concept that satisfies all objectives may not exist or is beyond the scope of this request. Proposed solutions concepts addressing capture, transfer, switching, or storage subsystems are welcome that show high performance potential relative to these requirements and/or objectives; however please mark accordingly and note each subsystem you are addressing. You only need to submit one proposal for this Challenge that addresses one or more of the subsystems. This Challenge is an Ideation Challenge, which varies from traditional InnoCentive Challenges in the following ways: There is a guaranteed award. The awards will be paid to the best submission(s), which are solely determined by the Seeker. The total payout will be $30,000. A part of the award ($7,500) will be dedicated to each subsystem. Each subsystem will be judged independently. Solvers will be eligible for the award on each subsystem they address. The Seeker can payout each subsystem as one award or split it among the best submissions for that subsystem. No award will be less than $1,000. In the case where a subsystem is not adequately addressed by anyone, The Seeker reserves the right to split that award among Solvers of the other subsystems. Your submission will identify and describe an application that meets the requirements of the Challenge. You are required to give the Seeker a free, perpetual, and non-exclusive license to use any information submitted for this Challenge. The Seeker will complete the review process and make a decision after the Challenge deadline. All Solvers that provide a submission will be notified as to the status of their submission; however, there will not be any detailed evaluation of your submission given.
