Sensor swarms are an exciting frontier of research since they require improvements in several technology areas. In addition to hardware advances needed in miniaturization, communication and powering individual sensors, the WAY in which the data is collected and communicated on a massive scale, to the end user poses a huge challenge. Research in the area of Sensor Networks has addressed this problem, but a much more revolutionary idea is the concept of Sensor Swarming, where the swarm itself exhibits ’emergent behavior’ or ’intelligence’.
