iPad Magazine
I want you to build my iPad magazine framework. This will be a back-end software program that allows a designer to create a magazine which will be output as an iPad App. Most if not all of the data the app user would see would be resident in the app, NOT hosted elsewhere (exceptions: maps, social networking features that require calling APIs). I do not want to host an SQL database that the app calls when opened; the app should be 80%+ useable on an airplane and thus self-contained. You should have experience writing for the iOS and creating applications for the Mac platform that are user-friendly and intuitive for design professionals. The back-end app should be compatible with InDesign and Dreamweaver-type web design tools, as well as Javascript and HTML5. UPDATE (5 July): To clarify my intentions related to this project, I offer the following list of things I have observed about other magazine apps available on the iPad. The first version of the backend application need not have all these features but should have at least text, video and image capabilities. Like: - readable in both configurations (horizontal/vertical) - supports hotlinks - supports video - supports slideshows - can zoom in on photos up to 2x (at least) - live polls - zoomable columns (on double-tap and/or pinch) - easily accessible table of contents which allows the reader to jump to articles (e.g. a single-touch brings up the menu and/or ToC) - in-app web browser - ability to make text bigger or smaller - email/Twitter/Digg/Facebook sharing - has a control panel with customizable aspects - bookmarks Dislike: - fake page-turning animation - constant crashes - counter- or non-intuitive functionality - pages are essentially glorified PDFs - have to sign up and/or sign in to get access or buy new ones(!!!!) - jump-cut page-turns; i.e. goes to black before next page appears Obviously I would like to have the "likes" as features and avoid making the "dislikes" mistakes. Thanks, "marcviln"
