Multi-vendor in joomla and Virtuemart

I need a multi-site solution where there is one main "global" site and many "local" sites in Joomla and Virtuemart. Content is added on the local site and only local content is visible on that site. However, *all* content is visible on the global site. I am mostly thinking of one big Joomla database and then filtering content for the local level. But I'm wondering if we can make VirtueMart's database behave this way. Keywords: AJAX, MySQL, Joomla, PHP, Virtuemart
