I need a networking website which is simplified version of facebook. It will be used by an association of companies, for example an association of manufactures. It would have the same functionality as a social networking site (like facebook) but it’s not meant to be primarily used for socializing. There will be 4 types of users, 1. vistors, 2. basic users 3. advanced users 4. website administrators. The association would like to give registered members (manufacturers) the ability to create a group page (like a blog) to post updates, documents, etc. with ability to make the group and associated content public or private. These group pages should have a primary page for content feeds like a "wall" and other sections (or additional pages) where they can upload documents which can be downloaded by allowed users (like "friends" in facebook) and where they can create a profile page for the group (like an about us page, contact info, etc.). We would prefer to have these member pages/sites be groups (not profile pages) so that multiple users from a manufacturer can be admins for the group and manage content. The purpose is to connect with these groups (company micro sites) while maintaining mostly anonymous profiles (except email address and name), bringing content from various companies within an industry to one source, emphasizing on the companies themselves and not the users viewing or administrators. Visitors will only be allowed to view content from groups which are defined as Public. Basic Users would be customers of the manufacturers. After creating an account, they can view content on public groups or join private groups to view/download content. Joining also allows them to follow these groups so they would get feeds on their profile page as they would on facebook or twitter. User profiles would be limited, no need to enter private info or pictures. Advanced Users would have the same features as Basic Users with the additional ability to create and administer groups, add posts, upload documents, etc… much like facebook. These users will be elevated to advanced level manually by site administrator or if their email address belongs to predefined domains such as email addresses from a particular manufacturer. Groups must be created by an advanced user, the creator will become the group admin. Much like facebook, the creator can make the group private/public, add other admins, add posts with attachments, upload documents, invite users to follow, approve users who want to join groups, etc. The group will have a page for posts and attachments. There will be other sections or pages for downloadable documents and group profile including contact information, about us info, etc. Search would be divided into 2 search bars. One search bar primarily for searching for groups and users, and the other to search for posts, documents, and all other content. Downloadable documents should be easy to search for and either should be entered into a database categories and subcategories or require tags to be entered when uploaded so users can search based on these tags (as well as document title and description) Site Admin options - All standard admin options like creating/editing/deleting accounts/content/posts/documents, changing skins/layout, etc. - turn on/off Basic User capability to post content, comments, private messaging, and feedback - turn on/off All Users capability to join group (users can join by invite only) - turn on/off Advanced User capability to create group without site Admin approval - turn on/off ability to sign in with facebook account - turn on/off ability to receive email updates when new content is posted on groups you are following I am looking for this to completed on a widely known (open source) platform such as wordpress/buddypress, joomla/jomsocial, etc. I have a site running with buddypress and it has 95% of the capabilities i am asking for so that could be a good platform to use but I am open to other suggestions.
