What text should be included in the main part of the logo? Biblioflip -- this is the product/software name. No other words are necessary in the logo. I would like an illustrative icon along with the text. I need the icon to also be standalone so it can be used to brand the software, but I'd like to also have the logo include the icon with the name for the website and other branding. What type of product or service do you offer? This is a standalone cross-platform (Linux/Mac/Windows) desktop software application that manages a user's electronic book collection (e.g. PDF, CHM, other formats). From a functional perspective it is like iTunes for books, in that it can import, search, sort, manage, and present you different views of the books you own. How long have you been in business? Not in business yet. In active development. What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? I want a good brand/identity with the logo that will help give the user a pleasant visual experience when they install and use the software, and view the website. What are your long term goals? My long term goals are to build the best product possible, and do my best as a micro-ISV to market it and see if the market likes it. I think they will. There are some very unique features to this software that do things nothing else out there does right now. It is designed to be dead-simple from a usability point of view, and freakishly useful, so you'll be hooked as soon as you see a simple YouTube demo of it in action. I hope to launch alpha in a few months..beta Q1 of next year. When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? Oct. 15th would be great. Audience Profile: Please describe your existing audience My existing audience includes anyone that consumes a large amount of eBooks -- non-DRM eBooks (i.e. not those bought from the itunes store). eBooks can be purchased from Amazon.com, or often just directly from the publisher (e.g. O'Reilly, Manning, etc.). I'm an avid tech book reader myself, but the software doesn't care about the content of the books necessarily. This type of user can quickly build up a large collection of random files that are spread around, named inconsistently and hard to find and manage. They would be drawn to this software b/c it is as simple as drag-n-drop into the application, and all of their books can be managed, searchable, organized by metadata (which is dynamically discovered), and read at their convenience. Who would you like to add to your audience? Anyone right now, since I haven't launched yet Perception/Tone/Guidelines: What type of logo would you like? Something fun...not necessarily just a series of abstract geometries. Perhaps incorporate a book? I'm not a good designer, so it is hard for me to limit it too much. Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) No Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? No "definite" images or icons. Something with a book might be apt, but I can be convinced otherwise. Communication Strategy: What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? Why Biblioflip? It is unique (for Google searches). I could afford the domain, and it rolls off the tongue...kind of fun to say. I originally considered Airbook, but that is taken, and there is a trademark on it. Biblio- library, flip...just b/c it is a fun ending...and also the software should make viewing your library quick and easy, and fun. What is your tagline or slogan? I don't have one right now. What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? The software is a fun way to view and manage your own private eLibrary. Where will your new logo be used? It will be used to badge the software (i.e. installer, window icon, desktop icon, etc.). It will also be used on the website. Competitive Positioning: Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos? There aren't a lot of competitors. There is a very nice open source package called Calibre http://calibre-ebook.com/. I like calibre, but it doesn't do all the things I wanted it to do, and the maintainer didn't seem all that interested integration of many of the new features I was interested in, so I decided to build my own. I'm not crazy about the logo for calibre or the website design at all. Most of these applications are just tons of forms that are painful to fill out and take for ever, ugly, and hard to use. The navigation is usually some huge tree view of your collection. Importing your books means you can point it to a directory or drag-n-drop, but then you have to fill out all the metadata (title, author, etc.). Biblioflip figures that metadata dynamically for you by scanning the actual contents of the file itself, and then searching for the information on the Internet -- nothing else does this. Biblioflip will also index the contents of all your books so it is fully searchable. Biblioflip is also cross-platform, so it will work on Mac/Linux/Windows. Targeted Message: State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: Biblioflip = your personal librarian -- who does the most awesome librarian tasks ever and you would never, ever consider anyone else b/c that would just be silly.
