Most 10-inch netbooks on the market today feature single-core Atom processors, but the next generation netbooks with faster dual-core Atom are becoming increasingly common. Atom N570 (1.66GHz, 1MB L2 cache, support DDR3 RAM) – March 1, 2011 latest dual-core processor from Intel Atom N550 (1.50GHz, 1MB L2 cache, support DDR3 RAM) – August 23, 2010 first dual-core processor designed for 10.1-inch netbooks Atom D525 (1.80GHz, 1MB L2 cache, support DDR3 RAM) – dual-core processor for 12.1-inch netbooks, Atom N475 (1.86GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB, support DDR3 RAM) – June 1, 2010 Atom N455 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB, support DDR3 RAM) – June 1, 2010 Atom N470 (1.83GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB, support DDR2 RAM) – March 1, 2010 Atom N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB, support DDR2 RAM) – December 21, 2009 Atom Z520, Z530, N270, 280 (single core) and Atom 330 (dual core) were outdate. Memory (RAM) --------------------------- Most 10 inch netbooks come with 1GB and support up to 2GB. Most 11 and 12 inch netbooks come with 2GB RAM. There are also different speeds of RAM: DDR2 and DDR3. DDR3 uses significantly less power, and can run faster. 4. Storage capacity (HDD/SDD) -------------------------------------------------- Most netbooks are equipped with the HDDs which have the storage capacity from 160GB to 320GB and a rotational speed of 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm. 5. Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) ---------------------------------------------------- There are 3 big GPU manufacturers – NVIDIA, ATI and Intel. GPUs are divided into integrated and discrete versions. Discreate or dedicated GPUs are relatively more powerful than the integrated GPUs. Most netbooks use integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3150) from Intel that is sufficient for basic computing needs. Some new netbooks are available with switchable graphics between a discrete and an integrated GPU powered by NVIDIA. 6.
