Convert GEDCOM Genealogy file into RDF for Semantic Web
Job Description This job is about both the Semantic Web and Genealogy. Genealogy applications can all export their data into a standard format called GEDCOM. I have a Perl script that I found that will convert a GEDCOM to RDF format which is the format that is used to represent data triples on the Semantic Web. I am a developer but new to Perl so I'm not sure how to utilize this script to accomplish the goals I have in mind. Note: the resulting RDF files should use the same Semantic Web Vocabularies that I am using in my application. The application is currently in a MediaWiki site. It uses FOAF, REL (about Relationships) and BIO (for biographic information). There are a fw other namespaces used. I then want to be able to import this RDF file into a MediaWiki application that I just mentioned. I have also installed the Semantic MediaWiki bundle on the wiki. There is an extension that will import RDF into a MediaWiki called RDFIO, but it uses Semantic MediaWiki version 1.5 and 1.6 and 1.7 are out now. I don't know if there is a way to go back to an earlier version of the software or not. Ideally, there would be a way to take a GEDCOM and transform it and then automate the import of the RDF data into the wiki. That might require some additional programming.
