EquiSight is a start-up working to advance the entertainment and value of the horse racing industry. We have prototypes of a jockey helmet, our "smart helmet", that have been outfitted with cameras for live streaming the jockey's eye view of events during a horse race. We are now in a position to begin to productize our work and are looking for someone to assist us with: 1. The finalization of the electronic components involved. 2. The manufacture of the electronic components. 3. The integration of those components into a jockey helmet shell that can still meet with accepted industry standards for health and safety. Our smart helmet has the following features and these must be continued into the productized version: - Safe, light-weight, jockey helmet manufactured to industry standards (ASTM/SEI). - Video capture of the wearers point-of-view using small lense and camera; video should be 720p HD, preferably H.264 encoded. - Audio capture, preferably MP3 or AAC encoded. - GPS location sensor. - Telemetry capture (accelerometer(s) across multiple planes). - LIVE, real-time transmission over Wi-Fi (802.11N) of the captured video, audio, GPS and telemetry signals. - Use proprietary communications protocol. - Allow for two-way communication with other wearers of a smart helmet or similar device (e.g., include speaker type device). - Light-weight - the electronics and camera should not add significantly to the weight of a basic jockey helmet. Our current prototypes are built on protoyping boards (e.g., beagleboard) and we need to assess the costs/returns on moving away from off-the-shelf boards and onto custom embedded hardware. Ideally the final product would be able to do all signal compression on the embedded device. We are currently using 32-bit ARM processors but will accept an alternative processor as long as the 720p video and audio encoding, the Wi-Fi support and other requirements outlined above are still supported.
