An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our client Unilever are currently looking for Microbiologist with good experience in Molecular Microbiology based at Unilever's Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight, Wirral. This is a full time, temp role for 11 months, paying between £24 316 - £26 793 pa depending on experience. Role Description. oDevelopment of in-vitro models oDevelopment of biochemical and/or molecular biology assays for characterisation of microbial growth and gene expression (qPCR / RT-PCR) oSample preparation for next generation sequencing analysis (e.g. 454) -The evaluation of novel microbial control strategies: oDevelopment and use of ex-vivo models for technology evaluation. Key competencies will be: STRONG molecular microbiology background (qPCR, 454, microbial gene expression analysis, etc) -Experience with the development/application of molecular biology techniques -Development and use of in-vitro models (suspension tests, biofilms tests, ex-vivo models -Existing knowledge or willingness to learn, about oxidative-reductive chemistry and how it can be utilised to achieve microbicidal or microbistatic effects. -Ability to work, both alone, and together with the Programme Manager, to define experimental programmes to address the key objectives of the area of study. -Responsibility for detailed and rigorous experimental design and implementation within a Class II Microbiological facility, with due attention to the scientific method (hypothesis testing) and appropriate use of necessary positive and negative controls and internal standards, etc. -Responsibility for working in a safe manner, with due regard to the safety of oneself and those around you (including preparation of appropriate safety documentation (COSHH/RA etc) to required standards.
