Install Wordpress on site currently running MVC php app

Job Description I have a website running a php application using MVC pattern. I need to install wordpress in the folder /blog/ The site is running on shared hosting with hostgator and has cpanel. I tired installing it but wordpress would not run so I'm assuming there are additional steps because of the mvc pattern. Need this work complete immediately.
