Manpower has fantastic temporary opportunities available between May and September this year, to be part of the crew at UPS, who are going to be responsible for virtually all the logistics services for The London 2012 Olympic Games. As a world leader in logistics, UPS will support over 170 Games sites, provide warehousing services, and leverage a global distribution network to collect and deliver practically everything from packages and documents to heavy freight, and even assist with the clean-up efforts when the Games end. Your role as a Crew Member will involve but not be restricted to: Unloading equipment such as furniture, technical and sports equipment and making sure it is assembled in the correct place ready for an event to begin Using equipment sheets to pick goods from the compound and using maps to find the area of the competition they are needed in Undertaking ad hoc duties during competition time, such as moving equipment around and going to other venues to collect additional required equipment You may be required to work in the Olympic Village, which would involve supporting the athletes when they arrive i.e. collecting items from the village compound and delivering them to athletes' apartments Loading equipment back on to pallets post events. Good map reading skills Ability to work under pressure and at a very fast pace Ability to lift and shift heavy equipment, either on your own or as part of a team Ability to take direction from management, as well as use your own initiative Good time management skills Flexible work ethic as you may be required to work beyond your shift finish time if necessary A good level of written, reading and spoken English is essential for understanding management instructions and communicating effectively with people from other Olympic departments and the general public FLT skills are also beneficial Driving license preferred but not essential.
