Role Specification Job Title: Quality Control Charge Hand (QCCH) Date: Jan 12 Reports to: QC Manager Issue: 1 Department: SHEQ Reportees: N/A Job Purpose: The QCCH is responsible for ensuring that working arrangements for the Paint Delivery operations are conducted in accordance with (iaw) current legislation, safety procedures and site requirements at the BAE Submarine Solutions Barrow Site on behalf of RML. T he application of all paint coatings, including surface preparation, complies with all project obligations in meeting the client related processes for the Paint Technical Specificat ion, Workmanship Standards , Paint Manufacturers recommendations and International Standards, Local Safety Procedures, or, as directed by the BAE Design Authority under the cover of issued Paint & Preservation Technical Instructions. Key Accountabilities: Whilst directly responsible to the QC Manager, the position holder has a functional responsibility to the RML SHEQ Improvements Manager. In the application of the above requirements the post holder will: - Ø Oversee the surface preparation and application of coatings during regular tours of designated areas or as detailed. Ø Conduct inspections of pre-surface preparation, pre-coating and post coating inspections, iaw relevant specifications and as designated hold points detailed within the clients WS’s. This will include periodic inspection of blast medium and apparatus maintenance and construction. Ø Recording and maintenanc e of inspection records iaw WS in meeting contractual obligations. Ø Ensure that through the inspection process, that all client expectations are fully met or exceeded. Ø Ensure all documentation is collated/maintained throughout delivery and is fully retrievable iaw client WS’s or as directed. Ø Ensure the quality of workmanship is maintained by all operatives to meet standards expected by the client. Ø As a result of inspection, highlight to the QC Manager and RML SHEQ Improvements Manager any individual significant shortfalls in quality, and also any generic failures to achieve quality. Ø With the Quality Manager, Paint Manager and Supervision identify any training required by operatives, to improve the quality of workmanship being produced. Ø Ensure all inspection equipment in use is correctly calibrated and certified. Ø Assist in the training/testing of operators when required. Ø Will establish a cordial proactive working relationship with the clients QC department. Ø Project a positive SHEQ culture in the delivery of objectives. Ø Supporting general SHEQ requirements but not limited to: investigations/audit/actions from other media, across the full spectrum of the contract including insulation joinery and lagging processes. Other Essential Skills/Experience and Qualifications: Suitably Qualified and experienced in the preparation surface finishes prior to paint application shall be certified to, Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) NVQ level 3, or, relevant experience demonstr able through CV and preferably qualified to ICorr Level 1 or NACE Level 3. Experience and or qualification to internal auditing techniques would also be advantageous. A minimum 5 years experience in a Marine environment would be beneficial but not a necessity. Measures: Accountability is monitored by the RML SHEQ Improvements Manager against an agreed series of performance indicators and reviewed via the end of period reporting mechanisms. Performance indicators may include the following:- Ø Communicate Inspection performance through relevant Meetings. Ø Progressing Inspection actions. Ø Supporting the implementation of agreed departmental objectives.
