Assistant IT Manager (12 Months)
The Adventure Company, part of the PEAK Adventure Travel group, is entering in to a period of large system changes and therefore is looking for an Assistant IT Manager for 12 months to be based initially in Alton, Hampshire. The key focus of this role is to deputise for the IT Manager at The Adventure Company to ensure high levels of support are maintained and to help ensure projects continue to progress as planned. The Adventure Company has a single site with approx. 45 staff so this is a varied and hands on IT role requiring work on a variety of different systems and activities including; Exchange, Windows Server, SQL server, business continuity planning, user support, Business Objects and training. The PEAK Adventure Travel group is working towards a shared IT services model and therefore some work may involve other companies in the PEAK group and this role may change as the shared IT services model is introduced over the next 12 months. Travel industry experience an advantage. Salary range from £30,000 to £35,000 depending on competence and experience. Interviews are planned for week commencing 27th February. Job Description Performance Objectives Provide support for PC’s / Mac Support and administer network infrastructure / hardware / servers / server software and network access. Support use of MS Office and other desktop applications Support web site and process of administering web site (i.e. adding tours, standard content etc). Keep user manuals for TAC systems up to date and circulate as necessary. Keep Travelink (current reservations and inventory system) manuals up to date and circulate as necessary. Support use of Business Objects Proactively carry out regular PC maintenance Monitor anti-virus software to ensure virus definitions and scans are up to date. Rapidly investigate, protect against and resolve virus outbreaks. Roll out software and upgrades to software on servers and PCs. Support interfaces between systems – i.e. Travelink and Business Objects, Travelink and web. Provide user support for TAC’s booking systems Key Accountabilities Office support Support colleagues use of the phone system Escalate phone issues to telecoms providers Resolve minor office issues or report office issues to IT manager or maintenance contractor. Look after office systems such as alarms IT regular tasks, monitor: Backups Call recording Feeds / links to other systems (i.e. web site, data warehouse) Internal vulnerability scans External vulnerability scans / penetration tests. Training and manuals Put together general IT training sessions and run sessions. These may include: Microsoft Office General systems training Ensure manuals are up to date and effective. Software in use at TAC: MS Office 2003/2007/2010 Windows Vista, 7 and XP operating systems Mac OS X Windows Server 2003, Windows server 2008 Microsoft SQL server 2005 Microsoft Exchange 2007 IIS Symantec Backup exec Symantec Endpoint protection Symantec.Cloud AV / anti-spam SAS Adobe Creative suite Dreamweaver SQL Server Crystal Reports Business Objects XI webi Systems Development The TAC IT department work on projects to further enhancement the systems of TAC. Business Objects (MI / operational reporting) Agree with colleagues and write up specifications for new reports Produce reports Ensure accuracy of reports Write specifications for changes to Business Objects universe. Intranet The Adventure Company has an intranet used as a communication tool and contains some reports. This is a mixture of php, SQL, HTML and .net. Maintain and update intranet Add additional sections and develop intranet to help company communication Produce reports / tools as needed Infrastructure The Adventure Company is always looking to improve its IT infrastructure. There are projects coming up to further enhance the TAC infrastructure in order to help with Business Continuity and DR. IT Management The assistant IT manager will be required to deputise for the IT manager when the IT manager is unavailable. The Adventure Company / PEAK has a number of approaching projects which will mean the IT manager may be regularly unavailable. This will involve: Supervising IT support and development role Ensure fast and effective resolution of major system faults if they occur Ensure projects (report development, documentation enhancements, infrastructure improvements) continue to progress as planned
