Systems Engineer
An exciting contract opportunity has risen for a Systems Engineer to join a world leading engine manufacturer. The successful Systems Engineer will join our clients European Engine Systems team, which is responsible for engine control system development for various facilities in Europe. The Systems Engineer will be part of a team of 20 people based at Peterborough, Stafford, Larne and Kiel. This contract offers the opportunity to work on cutting edge engine control system technology, with a diverse range of applications ranging from small construction machinery to agriculture and generator sets. It also offers the opportunity to travel once or twice a year to work with customers based in Japan. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SYSTEMS ENGINEER: Working with customers to identify their key requirements Development of specifications and test plans for application features to meet identified requirements, using structured tools and processes Development of off-engine system architectures to support engine requirements (including electrical / harness / component requirements) Managing feature development and implementation to meet the programme timelines Conducting verification testing to ensure quality of released software Supporting software validation and troubleshooting on engine - getting 'hands on' with the end product KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SYSTEMS ENGINEER: Decision Making Applied Learning Initiating action Planning and organising Innovation Building Strategic Working Relationships (Customer focus) Effective Communications QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OF THE SYSTEMS ENGINEER: Essential: Strong technical background (good technical degree preferred in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience will be considered. Experience of writing technical documents / requirements / test plans Experience of running / troubleshooting engine systems, particularly electronics related Strong interest in engine control system development, particularly for off-highway, marine and military applications. Good team player Excellent communications skills Strong customer focus Desirable: Previous experience in engine control system development (preferably in the off-highway industry) Good understanding of diesel engine technology Experience of running and participating in FMEA Experience of designing and executing verification test plans for electronic engine control systems Experience of electronic system development tools such as CANape, CANalyser and a working knowledge of J1939 datalink standards
