Senior Database Developer/Hadoop Practitioner - Contract - London My client is looking for an experienced Senior Database Developer/Hadoop Practitioner to join one of their core delivery teams, in a high-demanding, hands-on role. The role itself will cover everything from design and development within a Hadoop environment, to helping users and writing Hadoop queries. This is a great opportunity for someone with Hadoop experience to join and contribute to a huge corporation within the Travel industry. The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience: - Experienced Hadoop practitioner, who has a at least one successful production implementation - Experience with MapReduce and HDFS development. - Experience with other open source technologies, especially Big Data technologies like Cassandra, HBase - Development experience in Java programming, object oriented design, database design, multi-threading - Experience working on MPP architectures, and developing for distributed systems/clusters. - Experience with Data Warehousing and fluent in SQL and OLAP specification. - Proficiency in enterprise Java architecture and technologies (including JSP, JSF, Servlets, JMS, JDBC, ORM, JMX, AOP) - Experience with Linux/UNIX - Must be flexible and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Core Skill Set: - Experience with Hadoop and other open source technologies. - Experience with Hadoop ecosystem tools: MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume, HBase, Ganglia, etc. - Experience with distributed computing. - Experience with Java. - Excellent organizational, communication and technical skills. - Ability to read and interpret data - Excellent problem solving skills.
