Applications Analyst
POSITION PURPOSE: Analyzes data, information requirements and flow patterns to define, design, develops programs and processes to meet the requirements of clinical/laboratory and business needs to the systems in place as well as determining the need for new product implementation. Works closely with technical and Application staff as well as client base to insure successful implementation of procedures, business applications, and/or programs, client training, and follow-up. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: · Reports to the Manager Business Application Delivery who in turn reports to the Director Application Delivery Process. · No subordinates report directly to this position. Receives limited work direction from Sr. Application Product Analyst and/or Lead Application Product Analyst. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Identify, map, measure, analyze and improve routine to moderately complex clinical/laboratory and business processes, problems and information requirements for assigned application(s). Perform current and future workflow analysis and map out critical business processes using business process reengineering techniques, industry standards and best practices. · Prepare documentation for business requirements by using case diagrams, data flow diagrams, data models, and object models to present, discuss and analyze various dimensions. Evaluate whether a proposed solution meets the business and clinical/laboratory needs. · Translate user requirements into functional and technical design specifications and reviews with the user to insure accuracy. Prioritize requirements based on business needs and discuss the technological impact of business requirements. · Perform applicable system(s) configuration that meets business requirements. · Develop test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate performance of all functions. Conduct effective unit, integration, system and end-user acceptance testing through execution of the tests, tracking of problem reports and documenting all final outcomes. · Provide client and support training through development of training materials, training trainers and end-user(s) as appropriate to the project. · Monitor system functionality and clinical/laboratory and business processes instituting changes as needed. · Effectively explains the functioning of the assigned application(s) and related systems to the users. Assists users with using the full functionality of the application(s) and process flow. · Develop and maintain product documentation including: current workflows, requirements, functional specifications, installation instructions, product test procedures, user manuals, procedures and troubleshooting guidelines. Completes all appropriate change and quality control documentation using department standards. · Communicate project status and upgrades to clinic users, including any potential delays/downtime related to application(s). Manages multiple requests from multiple users and balances priorities. · Schedule and manages application version upgrades for assigned applications. · Resource for assigned application(s). Assist with support and troubleshooting as needed. Respond to user calls as necessary. · Remain knowledgeable of information technology and client's business operations. SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW AND REQUIREMENTS: · Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent technical training with relevant experience. Completion of Business Analyst training seminar(s) or Business Analyst Certification preferred. · Two years experience in business process mapping, analysis, defining business and user requirements, acceptance testing and documentation. · Two years experience utilizing managing applications and technical components of an Information System including basic hardware, platform, connectivity, interface design, operating systems and database. Experience includes: · Various operating systems and databases such as Unix, VMS, Cache, Oracle, SQL (structured query language), Access, Mumps · Interface Connectivity Standards transactions and code sets: HL7 (Health Level 7), ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials), EDI (Electronic Data interchange) · Healthcare applications for patient management, and laboratory services, patient orders and results. Specific knowledge and experience may include some of the following: Misys Laboratory, Misys Microbiology, Misys Blood Blood Bank, Misys Commercial Lab, Misys Commercial Paperless · Microbiology, Misys Clinical Financial, Sysmex éclair, Lane telecommunications Passport and T4 Systems. · Proficient in all aspects of the Application Product Analyst-Associate position. · Project management experience with ability to use project management software. · Demonstrated ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision. · Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks, be detail and results oriented, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely fashion. Must respond to user needs in a prompt, courteous manner. · Very good organizational and analytical skills. Strong problem and issue resolution skills. Ability to gather data and organize data. · Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to conduct Joint Application Development (JAD) facilitation meetings to lead requirements elicitation workshops. · Must be able to work closely with health care application users, vendors, and technical professionals. · Proficient at specifying user requirements, interacting with technical, health care staff and vendors, and documenting user needs, outcomes and procedures. Demonstrated ability to translate user requirements into system specifications. · Understanding of change management practices and procedures. · The willingness to independently learn multiple applications and be a resource to site users. · Demonstrated detail understanding of technical components and how they relate to applications and must be able to articulate technical and user needs in a concise manner easily understood by all. MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: · Must have ability to perform a considerable amount of work related travel (approximately 30% of time) throughout eastern Wisconsin, and therefore may be exposed to road and weather hazards. · Exposed to normal office environment. · Must operate all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job. · Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally. · Sits the majority of the workday; also lifts, reaches, and bends throughout.
