Hello, My name is Mark Zimmer and I live in Michigan, USA. I run a website that helps individuals find a bed and breakfasts in areas they are going to stay. The website, innfan.com, is quite simple. Each state is represented by a Google map that has numerous markers on it showing where properties are located. For an example, please check out this link which is a map of Michigan. /michigan-inns-and-bed-and-breakfasts/. The blue markers represent a property that I have added to the map. Although there are not many yet, the purple markers represent properties that have chose to upgrade to have me put more information in their marker. The yellow markers are an attempt by me to solve the issue of a crowed map. The biggest complaint I get is from innkeepers whose property is located in an area where there are numerous other properties located. When a potential guest is viewing the map at the default zoom, it is easy for them to not realize they have options in the area. The yellow markers symbolize there are choices in that located, and contain a link to a zoomed-in look at the map. It is okay, but clumsy. I have seen other maps that notify users of the map that they are choices nearby. What I would like to have is some way for a visitor of the site to choose what city they are looking to visit, and then have the map automatically zoom in on that area. If there are a lot of properties in the area, then I would like the map to notify the map user that they need to zoom in further. I am happy to hear suggestions on other ways to solve the crowded map issue. I assume that you might even know of a better way to make this happen. I want each property to have an equal chance of being seen, to make the site easy for guests to find a property in a certain area, and to make the map fun to use. Anything that can be done to achieve one of these goals is useful to me. If you could, please give me some suggestions on how we could best solve my problem, examples that you have, and an idea of what the costs would be.
