Email Migration Consultant
This Vancouver based client with a global footprint is moving from Groupwise to Outlook and Exchange. They require a consultant level individual to drive this project to conclusion by August 2012. They need a strong technical resource with a high confidence level based on previous migration experience and the ability to build trust fast across a divergent stakeholder base from senior executive to secretary. This is a contract position starting in February 2012 and lasting approximately 6 months. The project involves 1500 desktops starting with the head office in Vancouver and then moving to regional offices and plant locations in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. This position requires the ability to work overseas and to work outside normal business hours. Responsibilities: · Oversee the implementation team covering both technical and design aspects. · Review and contribute to project documents · Expert level background in deskside technical issue escalation and resolution. · Participate to design and develop a technically acceptable email migration approach. · Analyzes migration or email system related technical or design issues & resolve. · Identify, document and communicate efficiencies to migration procedures · Represents both the project and the regional user interests through the migration. · Act as liaison with outsource cloud based email vendor for dealing with system related migration issues. · Ensures that pre-migration technical steps have been conducted prior to executing the email migration for users. · Executes the desktop migration procedures; configures Outlook and desktop settings. · Lead local regional support teams through the email migration for their users. · Provide post migration first level support for users. · Provide knowledge transfer of desktop migration procedures to local first level support · Works with user team to conduct system and migration acceptance testing. · Migrates Groupwise local archives to local PST files for Outlook. · Provide post migration first level support for users. · Administers and manages user accounts for migrating users. · Resetting passwords and reassigning user access rights. · Deleting user account/access. · Providing technical and/or functional support and analysis. · Providing training on the new email system to end users and local support. Requirements: The ideal candidate is a rigorous logical problem solver who can command confidence, build trust and lead support engineers through client side email migrations. The candidate should be comfortable engaging with users and local technical teams and in leading onsite migrations. You enjoy hard work, travel and challenging work outside 9 to 5 office hours. This person relates to all kinds of people at senior executive and plant level and can balance technical detail with a broader business perspective. You should have the following qualifications: Technical diploma or degree · At least 12 year of experience and at least one year in a technical consultancy role · Exposure to Quest Migration Manager for Exchange is a plus · Hands -on experience with desktops, laptops and providing migration leadership and support with cross platform email migrations in a networked environment. · Extremely proficient with email systems (MS Outlook and some previous exposure to Novell GroupWise). In-depth knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products particularly Outlook (2003, 2007 and 2010). · Systems such as Opentext Livelink or SharePoint would be an advantage. · Experience using Quest GroupWise migratory for Exchange software. · Experience using desktop imaging software.
