MS Access database editing
I have a MS Access database that I'm looking to modify. The database was design in 1998 but is still relatively small. Unfortunately the original designer has moved on and is no longer available. The database stores contact information for a mailing list and serves as a means to record membership account status - as either active or lapsed. It is also used to generate both invoices and receipts for account payments .Our current interface is very simple, but somewhat limited. What we're ultimately hoping to accomplish is a redesign of the search functionality to be able to locate and modify clients records more efficiently. Currently we are only able to search via account number or last name - very time consuming and frustrating. We would like to increase the number of options we can search by, ie. First & Last name, Account status, Chapter, and other options. Likewise, should we have multiple members with the same name, ie. four John Smiths, our search only returns the first record (ordered as per account id), and no indication is made that other records might exist. In addition to the improved search functionality we are looking for some advice on a more comprehensive report generating interface. Currently we are mostly limited to a specific date range for one particular field, ie. account renewal flagged within [date range]. The ability to specify more criteria would be excellent, for example adding the functionality of being able generate a account renewal flagged report for a specific date range AND within a certain chapter. The last functionality we are looking for (and I'm not sure if this is possible), is the ability to generate a invoice or receipt (from a editable template) which can then be emailed to registered email addresses for clients. Should be able to run either as a batch for a particular date range or can be manually run from within the client profile. Currently we have to search the database and generate invoices via a date range (which may be multiple clients), these are then exported to word were we have to manually separate the individual clients invoices, save these individual invoices as a pdf, and then email to clients. Way too cumbersome. We are willing to speak with a Access programmer on possible solutions if editing in not possible, ie. a complete overhaul of the database to make it more efficient and user friendly. If we are happy with the work, future modifications and maintenance will be arranged. Look forward to hearing some options! Keywords: Access, Microsoft
