Logo Creation
Same job, different business. This is a greater New York City area landscape architect. He did his own logo about a year ago and asked me what I thought. I thought it sucked! He redid it himself and addressed some of the glaring issues I flagged, but it's still not great and now he wants professional help. There's a lot of stuff dumped here so, as usual, I try to summarize at the bottom. BACKGROUND INFO Site: JPSLA.COM I gave him some questions to answer but he didn't respond to most of them. Pulled out tidbits. I LIKE SIMPLE AND EASILY IDENTIFIED ; AUDI, ATARI, ATT&T, PLAYBOY, ADDIDAS (THE 3 LEAVES WITH HORIZONTAL STRIPES) AND TO AND EXTENT : NIKE, TWITTER, GOOGLE CHROME, 9- Do you have any color preferences, or existing brand colors? [JPS- AS YOU WILL SEE I LIKE ORANGE GREEN AND GRAY TOGETHER. BUT OPEN TO ANYTHING.] 12- What feeling or message do you want your logo to convey to those who view it? [JPS- CURRENT - FRESH - SMART 14- How would you like the typography to appear? Example: script, bold, light, hand drawn, custom lettering [JPS - MOST LIKELY BOLD - TYPE - TAHOMA? ARIAL? ..BUT OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS 4- Who are your main competitors? / / / 3- Why do you want a new logo? (if they already have one) What do you want your new logo to accomplish? [I'D LIKE THE NEW LOGO TO MATCH MY LANDSCAPE DESIGN AESTHETIC - CLEAN, SIMPLE, CLEVER AND I WOULD LIKE THIS NEW LOGO TO TRANSLATE ACROSS ALL MEDIUMS - FACEBOOK PROFILE, LETTER HEADS, BIZ CARDS, WEBSITE ETC. Over the phone he also said: --open to graphic/icon-based logo or a text logo similar to what he has now --said tons of landscape architects have tree logos but is open to a tree if it is a really clever/cool tree --doesn't have a tagline but would like "Landscape Architect" to be a de facto tagline i.e. Joseph Pajonas Studio: Landscape Architect --doesn't know how he wants name written out. Could be JPS acronym or Joseph Pajonas Studio written out fully --seems to understand what makes a good logo. Doesn't want anything too complicated. Wants it to look just as good at 20x20 pixels as it does on a t-shirt -think he prefers icon/graphic as part of logo but can't envision what it would be --doesn't really seem to have any set ideas about what he wants. Just wants something that looks good, so feel free to experiment --could try using the aesthetic of his conceptual drawings (some are on the image gallery on his homepage Summary: --Try both text- and graphic-based treatments --Aim for a wide range of styles (need to hone in on what he likes since he can't verbalize it yet) --Try the name as both acronym and written out. Use "Landscape Architect" as a tagline in at least one treatment If you have specific questions, I can try to offer guidance based on my conversations with him. Deadline is loose, so get to it when you have time. Just wanted to get this in your queue. Pay: I like what you've done on the projects we've had so far and want you to feel that it's "worth it". Charge me more. $100? Desired Skills: Graphic Design, Logo Design Keywords: Logos, Logo, Graphic, Design
