We are looking for a graphic designer to convert more than 500 Word documents into web-based training booklets and Flash files over the next few months. These Word documents range in size from as small as 8 pages to as large as 200+ pages, with an average length of about 60 pages. The scope of the job you are bidding on now is to: 1) Create a desktop publishing template (8.5" x 11" pages) using Adobe InDesign, 2) Layout the first booklet in InDesign using an existing 5,000-word Microsoft Word document and export to a PDF, 3) Then, optimize the layout for Flash and export to a SWF file. The template design must be graphically open and easy to read and must provide a variety of page designs that can handle graphics/photos/tables of various sizes with text as well as normal text pages without these additional graphics/photos/tables. We would expect a minimum of 8 ? 10 preset page designs would be required to accomplish this in addition to the design for front and back cover pages. Below are links to example "before" and "after" files to get an idea of what a typical document should look like. Note that the example document contains approximately 5000 words and was created in-house using very simple desktop publishing software. It is expected that the successful bidder will be capable of providing a more polished finished product using InDesign. Note that the example document has at least one graphical element (a photograph, drawing, quotation, shaded box, or table) on every page. Pictures, drawings, and tables will be embedded in the correct location within the Word document that we provide to you. At least 70% of the pages in the final document shall include at least one graphical element. In cases when the Word document does not have enough graphical elements to meet the 70% minimum, you will need to create and add elements. You will create such elements by identifying and extracting suitable text/data from the text to create quotes, tables or shaded boxes. You will not be required to find or create new pictures, drawings or figures from external sources. Deliverables for this project are: a) Template in InDesign native file format including all graphical elements isolated in separate files to allow for easy reformatting if needed, b) Booklet in both InDesign native file format and PDF, c) Flash-optimized file in both InDesign native file format and SWF (Flash) A fixed price bid is required for this initial project. In your bid description, provide a pricing structure and a rate for future work. We will need a quote based on the number of words or number of text pages (prior to conversion). If there is an additional price for creating additional graphical elements, then include that cost (on a per element basis). Also, include your cost basis both for: i) the booklet with the Flash-optimized layout, and ii) the booklet alone. Our intent is to develop a long-term relationship with a designer. Thus, the bidder for the initial project will be selected with that goal in mind. We must be able to view a portfolio of your work in order to consider you for this project.
