Position Overview: The 3D Texture Artist will be responsible for creating textures and materials from ZBrush to final assets for an exciting project that strives to be ground-breaking, all the way down to the texture work. In other words, this project opens up a stylish world that demands: A keen eye and strong skills to create. An exciting art direction that relies heavily upon the foundations of the texturing and materials to give it strong visual "legs". Team Culture: This is a pretty laid back group that does a lot of good-natured joking. Someone who is fun and lighthearted would fit best. Anyone who has a bad attitude or is overly cocky would not work for this group, and would be rejected. This group is working hard to maintain their culture. The team is also extremely fast-paced, and candidates need to be comfortable moving with them. Duties and Responsibilities: Work with the Art Lead to create high-quality materials and textures in specific styles. Be primarily responsible for creating a large amount of terrain, and world textures and materials. Be secondarily responsible for support texturing of props and other game elements. Create all levels of materials, from the Zbrush sculpt to the polished, shippable in-game textures. Balance the textures and materials in-game, and work with the team in order to get that balance with lighting and atmosphere. This is an estimated 6-12 month contingent/temporary position through Volt Technical & Creative Communication, which is headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Requirements: Required Skills for this 3D Texture Artist position include the following: Should have 2+ years of experience working in Production as a Texture Artist for video games Must have shipped at least one console title as a Texture Artist Should possess a strong portfolio centered around textures and materials, as well as your creation process Should have strong expert knowledge of and experience with Photoshop Must have a strong skill set in ZBrush (Our Client's texturing techniques and style require this knowledge) and must be able to provide strong examples to show this tool integrated into your pipelines Should have a strong understanding of efficient UV layouts and editing Must have: An understanding of complex materials and an expert-level understanding of the interactions of Spec, Normal and color maps A knowledge of real-time lighting and shadowing An ability to work in various styles and detail levels Passion for creating textures that are the foundation for beautiful worlds 2D animation skills, as well as 3D art skills and related knowledge a bonus Instructions to begin the process: All candidates must send a portfolio or work samples along with their inquiries.
