Non-Profit Event Recruitment Manager - Flint
Job ID: 10054 Position Description: Position Summary Responsible for successful management of team recruitment and fundraising for the annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, a large-scale fundraising event in October with over $300,000 in expected income and over 5,000 projected participants. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will involve the active participation of local corporations, hospitals, schools and government agencies in the fight against breast cancer. Working closely with the area management and staff team, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Recruitment Manager will lead, oversee, train and communicate all aspects of pre-event operations including the outreach, recruitment and cultivation of corporate teams as well as support planning of the kickoff breakfast attended by 360 team leaders. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Recruitment Manager is a full-time, temporary position with responsibilities beginning May 7, 2011 and ending two-weeks post-event in October. Following the successful completion of his/her assignment and achievement of personal goals, the Recruitment Manager may be considered for available permanent employment opportunities within the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division. Major Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for the successful management of team recruitment and fundraising for large-scale special event with a personal goal of recruiting and cultivating at least 75 corporate teams by telephone • Oversee and communicate all aspects of pre-event operations including the outreach, telephone recruitment and cultivation of teams throughout the area • Effectively motivate and empower staff team to achieve overall event recruitment goal • Promote the American Cancer Society to community members, potential donors, volunteers and business partners • Develop and manage calling lists for telephone recruitment effort • Identify and assist in securing corporate teams for prospective Flagship sponsorships • Support the planning, coordination and implementation of team leader kickoff breakfast • Establish and/or utilize specific measures of desired outcomes to assess event performance metrics • Utilize available technology and resources to perform position responsibilities and complete work in an efficient manner • Ensure implementation of accurate data collection for donor and volunteer records • Achieve maximum net income within pre-approved budget and acceptable expense guidelines • Proactively and assertively address issues as they arise • Some evening and weekend meetings with participation at kickoff and event is required • Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Proven success in sales, marketing and/or new business cultivation • Project oriented, dynamic and energetic, with demonstrated time management and multi-tasking ability • Proven interpersonal, verbal and communication skills, including telephone prospecting • Experience recruiting and training dedicated volunteers and staff to achieve goals • Strong knowledge of and relationships with large employers in the area with ability to build and leverage strategic relationships • Must be able to think strategically and execute detailed plans to completion • Ability to communicate effectively, logically and clearly in written documents and oral presentations • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, tasks and projects effectively and within designated timeframe • Must possess sufficient computer hardware and software expertise to fulfill position responsibilities • Ability to act independently and proactively with minimal or no supervision • Commitment to the mission of the American Cancer Society to eliminate breast cancer Position Requirements: Requirements and Qualifications • Associate or Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience with two years of relevant experience • Excellent internal and external communication skills with demonstrated ability to work well with others • Experience with prospecting and cultivating relationships by telephone • Proven ability to motivate and lead others to achieve their goals • Solid project management skills with ability to complete multiple, competing tasks • Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused manner • Remains composed under stress and takes personal responsibility for delivering on individual goals and organizational commitments • Computer literacy skills required- Basic computer skills and email use • Ability to work with limited supervision • Some travel required • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required • Some heavy lifting may be required • Some evening and weekend work with overnight travel • Non-tobacco user The specific statements shown in each section of this job description are not intended to be all inclusive; they represent typical elements and criteria necessary to perform the job successfully.
