Research: Running Analysis of Employee Communcation to improve Business
A research is needed on the benefits for running traffic analysis of employee communication and collaboration on an enterprise social platform based on Sharepoint. i.e. Why would a large corporation invest in ensuring that their social platform is heavily utilized, rather than email, in order to analyze their employee communications, interactions, and collaborations? What sort of impact can be gained if such analysis is performed? What hidden trends can be observed? In short: famous social networks such as facebook constantly run analysis on their users' behavior, connections, and interactions to come up with information that is valuable to them (mainly marketing and improvements). What, if any, would be the value for a large enterprise to run similar types of analysis? Our company's environment: - Large organization (50,000+) with offices worldwide - Main business is oil and gas. However we have an IT department that consists of over 2000 employees which provides all required services from communications and infrastructure to web and app design. - a key challenge we are facing is knowledge transfer from retiring experts to potential replacements - we have a vested interest in innovation, knowledge sharing and collaboration - we currently utilize sharepoint to address these challenges, however it is rarely utilized. (and nobody seems to care ) - we have a group that is responsible for monitoring and analyzing data traffic, but only for the sake of network management and operations. Not to extract information and trends that impacts our company. (Should the role of this group be expanded to run other analyses in a way that provides useful data on people and organization behavior?) Goals: - Persuade decision makers that running the type of analysis I described is important to THEM - Make a case that we all have a vested interest in insuring that our sharepoint tool is constantly used (we don't seem to realize the value of it) The report should also highlight risks, financial impact, and business impact. I realize that the description might be a bit confusing or unclear, please contact me if you have any questions.
