Lots of work like this and will expand into larger scope, if performance is satisfactory will become long term partnership. Objective: Write Excel VBA Function with user parameters to download and processing csv files. Requirement: Demonstrate the VAB Function or Sub Functions works Description: A FTP server host a file that needs to be downloaded daily, but the FTP will only hold up to certain amount of files by dropping the oldest ones; therefore a tool need to be created to download/archive the file. The daily file serve as input to a process and the data needs to be imported into spreadsheet and manipulated before the user will use it. Functions 1. A Windows Scheduler will call a VBScript to call the function spreadsheet to do the daily download - Need a VBScript to call the VBA function with parameters - Need a VBA Function to do the following 2. Synchronize with the FTP - Download only the file(s) that has not been downloaded, it is possible to have to download more than one due to system downtime or holidays. - Once new file(s) downloaded, unzip and save only one of the many files in the zip that the user defined into another user defined directory 3. Import the data (in .CSV format) into spreadsheet - Import the raw data into a data structure (i.e. in ADO objects) - Locate a section within the file where the user specify the range by row and column coordinate, and the total number of rows to import - Stores the data into another data structure and be sorted using SQL language in user specified order - Once sorted, the data will need to be transposed, from vertical to horizontal form and save to the end of user defined range without overwriting last entry 4. Output log: - Record a historical logs of the files syncronized, time of creation, time of drop, time the downloading completed, and file size; the log should occupy within a user specified range. 5. Monitor the file drop: - The time the downloading completed is crucial to determine how early or late the file appears on the FTP, the VBScript shall enable the user to monitor when a new file become available by monitoring it. - Must use little server resource when querying for the change in the FTP folder ------------------------------------------ Added 8 APR 2012, 23:44 PM EDT Amendment: 1.
