Hi, I have a machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 running as a primary domain controller along with two virtual machines - one of them running Win Server 2008 with Sharepoint 2010 (business application) + SQL server 2008; the other with Win Server 2003 (also domain controller) and Sharepoint 2007 (contains business application before migration to 2010 - not so important). The server with Sharepoint 2010 is also running user code and has been in production for approximately 18 months. However, for the past 6 months it has been a little unstable after I accidently demoted it from being a domain controller because the server was overloaded. I eventually got it back up and running by promoting it to a domain controller but I was forced to run numerous services (SQL Server, Sharepoint & IIS) under an administrator's account to fix numerous issues. I ran the Products Configuration Wizard but I could never get it to run to completion (fails on step 6) but Sharepoint appeared to operate satisfactorily so I never worried about it. The business application its running will be shutdown in about 12 months anyway. Recently, I upgraded virus software on all servers along with installing some Windows updates (automatic updates). Somewhere through all of this Sharepoint stopped working. That is, the services start but I cannot open a web client or the administrator console. The error logs implies a security issue but its not obvious (fails to get a security token). I'm unsure where the problem lies - in Windows, SQL Server, or Sharepoint. I've reached the bounds of my expertise and hence need someone with more experience to debug.
