Systems Engineer, Health Interface Specialist: HIE; HL7 Job Description: The successful applicant will advise on interface implementation to health information exchange organizations (HIOs), providers, pharmacies, labs, and public health departments. Advising technical assistance grantees on interface implementation, including: Independent and hospital lab interfaces, Immunization registry interfaces, Public health department interfaces for lab results for reportable conditions, and Interfaces between and among HIOs; all implemented to conform to the EHR certification criteria for meaningful use. Managing interface implementation for electronic lab results, immunization reporting, and public health reporting as part of the technical assistance program. Maintaining technical knowledgeincluding standards, data model, and schematic knowledgeof the relevant technology stacks and workflow use cases. Supporting or delivering on other technical service projects as assigned. Maintaining technical knowledge of current tools and standards. Maintaining knowledge of HIE industry standards and trends. Maintaining knowledge of evolving ONC/IHE integration standards. Maintaining knowledge of healthcare provider business needs. Requirements: Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent. At least five (5) years of experience in systems engineering in an IT industry. At least one (1) year of experience in heath IT industry. Extensive knowledge of healthcare industry IT interfaces and information exchange protocols. Demonstrated expertise in health IT standards, including HL7 v2.x and v3 . Demonstrated experience and success performing efficiently under tight time frames, taking initiative, and managing complex projects. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other team members. Excellent listening, problem solving, negotiation, and facilitation skills Strong written and oral communication skills. Highly self-motivated . Preferred Experience: Experience working in a complex organization, nonprofit, or start-up Familiarity with ONC programs, NwHIN specifications, Direct Project specifications, and implementation guides developed through the S&I Framework initiative Familiarity with the clinical document architecture (CDA) and continuity of care document (CCD) standards Familiarity with IHE standards and implementation guides Prior experience with privacy and security in the healthcare industry.
