We are currently in pre production on 'The Last Rites', based in Bristol. The synopsis of the film can be found here: http://mirrormask.wix.com/thelastrites#!synopsis We are working on an 30 minute short film that is a condensed version of the full 2 hour script. It's aim is to secure funding for a feature length adaption. The 30 minute piece gives a broad overview of the film itself, introducing the main characters, locations, themes, genre, tone and visual style. It will be cut down into 4 or 5 shorter trailers and along, with the feature script, concept art, designs, music score examples etc., will be used as an investment package for submission to funding boards. Multiple roles need to be filled. Director of Photography: The film is set within a world where power has ceased and this needs to be reflected within the look of the interior scenes, maximising the use natural light and candle light as much as possible. Superficial lighting will also be used wherever natural light is unachievable to fulfill the required composition. The lighting of the film turns progressively from light to dark, from clear and defined imagery to out of focus/blurred frames, from wide encompassing angles to tight, distorted and claustrophobic framing. Camera operator: The movements of the camera changes throughout the film and, in some aspects, represents the virus itself. Therefore I am looking for a camera operator comfortable working in a number of styles from very simple set ups requiring little-to-no movement to frenetic hand-held compositions. Steadicam owner/operator - there will numerous steadicam shots throughout the film so I am seeking someone skilled in attaining fluid motion for these extended sequences. If you have your own equipment even better. Sound recordist - Because of the fact life has all but ceased within the world of this film, the texture of sound is vitally important and plays a key part in the narrative progression, charting the central characters journey from urban environments into the wilds of nature. I am looking for someone with a keen interest in sound recording and design and who has an ear for detail and texture. The positions are currently unpaid but my aim is that, once we have secured funding from these extended trailers, key members will be offered paid positions as we move onto the feature film.
