Project Controls Manager   Position :          Project Controls Manager Duration:          3 to 12 Month Contract Assignment   Location :         Canonsburg, PA with potential for project assignments in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, or New Jersey.   Position Overview : This is a senior level position within the Major Projects division.  The successful candidate will perform detailed cost, schedule and other project control activities for the Major Projects team on a specific project.  This position requires a high level of skill in identifying, analyzing, and providing innovative solutions to estimating, cost engineering, and schedule management problems including knowledge of project development activities, project execution, risk management, construction management, and operating plant interfaces.  Provide routine and non-routine cost and schedule enginee ring support to active or developmental projects with a strong emphasis on scheduling techniques (Primavera P6 a plus) and effective cost reporting.  Supports and promotes project control improvements and implements associated recommendations.   Supports organizational initiatives including those associated with corporate, departmental, and project goals.   Reports To :                 Director, Project Controls or Assigned Project Manager(s) Key Interfaces :           Senior Director, Major Projects, Project Managers, Project Control Managers, Finance, Accounting, and other Major Projects personnel.   Position Duties / Responsibilities :   ·         Provides advanced project controls support (all disciplines) for projects in every phase of development or execution including those that have not yet been approved. ·         Develops sound relations with Project Team members, contractors, vendors, and other functional departments to ensure effective stewardship and oversight of project activities. ·         Coordinates with others to proactively assess progress, analyze variances, identify issues, develop project specific recommendations, and implement corrective actions. ·         Interfaces with project team members, plant operations (as required), accounting and other functional departments to develop and maintain project baselines (technical, cost, and schedule), prepare reports, and provide counsel to senior managers. ·         Establishes personal performance goals consistent with corporate and departmental goals. ·         Other project control responsibilities include: ­   Ad hoc studies and assignments ­   Project management and control tools (set-up, implementation, and user training); ­   Oversight of project cost control activities including support for self-assessment and audits; ­   Maintain interfaces with designated GenOn management and contractor counterparts. ­   Recommends, develops and maintains project control improvements and standard practices. ­   Manages the compilation, summation, updating and presentation of project control data.   Position Related Skills and Experience :   ·         Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or equivalent experience. ·         Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, consensus building, and coaching. ·         Proven ability to work with people and provide instructional guidance / coordinate team actions. ·         Capability and flexibility to handle multiple tasks under restricted time frames and with competing priorities. ·         In-depth understanding of Excel, Primavera, Microsoft Project, and SAP (other software a plus). ·         Ability to identify, analyze and provide solutions to project control engineering/management problems. ·         Knowledge of project financing, accounting, and control systems and processes. ·         Electric power industry experience in engineering, construction, or project controls with an emphasis on major projects will be considered favorable (knowledge fossil technology a plus). ·         Knowledge of prime contract administration and plant operations is important but not essential. ·         AACE or PMI certifications also a plus. ·         Some travel may be required to support group functions or project specific activities.
