School Appeals Administrator
MAIN DUTIES: �To administer the independent Education Appeal Panels (admissions and exclusions). �To liaise with appeal panel members, Council staff, schools and parents, in arranging appeal hearings and related meetings, and ensuring that they operate smoothly. �To produce and despatch various documents associated with the appeals process - letters, agendas, notices, etc. �To become familiar with legislative requirements, the Government Code of Practice and other relevant guidance; and to apply these in administering the appeals process. �To work within the statutory and Council timescales for these appeals and in accordance with written protocols. �To provide advice to parents, panel members, school and Council staff on the appeal process. �To maintain the databases of appeal cases, panel members, etc. (Microsoft Access), ensuring that information is up-to-date and accurate, and that systems meet changing requirements. �To deal with correspondence arising from school appeals in liaison with the Children�s Services Department of the Council. �To maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems and records related to the responsibilities of the post. �To use ICT equipment and software (Microsoft Office) for the storage and interrogation of information on school admission and exclusion appeals. �To meet and greet parents and school representatives that are attending appeal hearings, putting them at ease and answering their questions. �To assist generally in all aspects of the administrative and secretarial functions of one of the Committee Secretariat teams and, where necessary, in the work of the Committee Secretariat as a whole. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: �Ability to work to deadlines. �Solid administrative skills. �Proven organisational skills, including experience of organising meetings, conferences or events. �Good written and oral communication skills. �A sound customer care approach. Experience of working with the public would be an advantage. �Ability to draft accurate letters and documents using plain English. �An ability to use initiative and to work with minimal supervision. �A flexible and positive attitude to teamwork. �Good under pressure. �Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
