Work closely with the development team and the business partners to identify data requirements. This may involve working with business requirements, analyzing business processes and systems, or examining object models prepared by the development team. Document findings as a logical data model using one of the available modeling tools (example: ER/Studio). Iteratively review the model with the extended team to ensure that it is accurate. Update the model as necessary whenever functional changes occur within the related application. Apply inventive solutions to complex problems as needed. Development/Design: Use existing data attribute names from the corporate data dictionary whenever possible. Capture new data attribute business names per Fannie Mae Information Architecture standards. Provide a correct datatype and definition for every new attribute. Abbreviate physical data element names per the standards. Submit data attributes to the Information Architecture group for a naming review and eventual inclusion in the corporate data dictionary. Work with the database administrator to ensure that the physical database is completed on the schedule defined by the development team. Applications used: Securities ODS, UCP. System: ERStudio Customer Interaction: Build rapport with the development team and business customer to elicit their concerns and collaborate on creating workable solutions. Suggest other development support services (example: configuration management and testing) as needed to ensure a smooth development life cycle. Support the business partners during acceptance test and after production implementation by preparing and running targeted database queries designed to solve specific problems. Experienced data modeler (minimum of 5 years experience) Experienced ER/Studio modeling tool user Good problem solver -- it is common for SMEs to view the requirements differently. The modeler must determine how these different views can be integrated into a usable whole.
