Temporary Firmware Engineer

We seek an experienced and talented Firmware Development Engineer to join our team at our central research facility in Beverly, Massachusetts to focus on bringing solid state lighting technology to millions of people. As a firmware development engineer at OSRAM SYLVANIA, you will work with a team of world-class research scientists and engineers, to take on designing and applying state-of-the-art control and system concepts in future lighting products and systems. You will develop new electronic lighting systems and sub-systems like smart LED drivers, sensors, software, GUIs and lighting control concepts. Your involvement will be from concept to working prototype / system. Your contributions, combined with your expertise in firmware development, will help to bring new ideas and concepts to life. We seek an exceptionally skilled person in firmware programming with top-notch critical thinking skills on a systems level, who is willing to work in a team setting, and is able to take on leadership roles as needed. Qualifications Basic Qualifications · 7 years minimum experience with embedded firmware development · Experienced with several modern microcontroller platforms as well as their programming in C and assembly · Familiar with the communication methods utilized in embedded systems (e.g. I2C, SPI, etc.) · Hands-on experience in designing, prototyping, analyzing and debugging microcontroller-based digital and analog/power electronic circuits and systems · Experienced in interfacing embedded systems with PCs (e.g. RS-232, USB and Ethernet) · Good PC programming skills using languages such as C++ or Java · Solid understanding of embedded systems hardware design, including PCB layout · Solid theoretical background as well as practical expertise in digital signal processing · Ability to lead other firmware engineers, coordinate tasks and ensure high quality implementation · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Education: BSEE or BSCS with 7 years of relevant engineering experience or MSEE or MSCS with 4 years of relevant engineering experience or PhD entry level Preferred Qualifications Project leadership experience Proven track record of successful firmware and PC software development · Design experience in power electronics Expertise in digital control of power converters a major plus · Experience in the field of lighting controls or lighting electronics Familiar with wired lighting communication protocols like DALI or DMX Wireless network communication experience (e.g. ZigBee, 6LoWPAN, Wi-Fi, etc.) Expertise in low-power microcontroller based systems utilizing energy harvesting Experience in power line communications This position is a temporary position lasting through the end of September with extension possibilities.
