Automation Technician - Automation Technician The Trainer/Automation Technician role is comprised of two primary functions; that of a Technical Trainer of automated assembly equipment, and also as an Automation Technician. Acts as the lead technician for the shift and assist the team in meeting productivity goals. Create and maintain a positive work environment through effective communication with all the stakeholders (Operators, Supervisors, Education Coordinator, HR…), by supporting the culture of the organization and serving as a model for team behaviors. Must have a commitment to the overall organizational direction and the team-based approach. Develop & Support high performance teams. Encourage continuous improvement, ensure a safe and healthy team environment and responsible for the technical training of automatic equipment. As a member of a high performance team you will be responsible for a variety of jobs. As the team progresses, you, along with your team members will be a key decision maker in the operation of your Perform a variety of trouble shooting, repair and preventative maintenance duties required to maintain all production equipment in serviceable and efficient operating condition. Missions and Activities Knowledge of various control system platforms such as PLC, Fanuc, Siemens, DCS, Wonderware, Intellution. Calibrate and adjust equipment as required or scheduled. Develop predictive maintenance procedures to maximize replacement component life without compromise to equipment efficiency and performance. Knowledge of various automation components such as, pneumatics, electronics, sensors and switches. Able to read and understand electrical and pneumatic schematics. Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problem. Set up and test equipment to ensure that it functions properly. In addition, operate equipment to demonstrate proper use and to analyze malfunctions. Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations and tests. Calibrate testing instruments and installed or repaired equipment to prescribed specifications. Consult with customers, supervisor, and engineers to plan layout of equipment and to resolve problems in system operation and maintenance. Advise supervisor regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements. Maintains equipment in compliance with National Electric Code (NEC) and Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) rules and regulations. Have operation knowledge of the process in the three major areas, Utilities, Processing, and Packaging. Participates as team member and understands and applies LEAN principals used in the facility's continuous improvement initiatives. Report to and collaborate with supervisor on any process or personnel issues. Uses his/her leadership skills and technical competences to facilitate the actions necessary to align team with daily maintenance and repair production goals, etc. Revise and create ISO related documents (SOPs, work instructions, POIs, MFGs, MCNs, JSA's etc.). Provide good communication of maintenance activities to following shifts. Use his/her process expertise and technical competences to provide assistance to supervisor and engineering in problem solving. Mentor team members to build technical skills. Assist team in understanding real-time data provided through visual production data systems. Reference appropriate documents when required such as MSDS documents, system level SOPs, company policies and Policy Manual, and ISTM documents. Main focus on: PLC Troubleshooting Qualifications Education equivalent to an accredited apprenticeship in electronics, certification in electronics or 3 to 4 years experience in electronics. Knowledge of various control system platforms such as PLC, Fanuc, Siemens, DCS, Wonderware, Intellution. Rockwell Automation software. Strong technical competencies in electro-mechanical and automation skills. Prior leadership experience preferred Strong human relations skills Able to set a good example to employees with regard to company policies and procedures. Able to motivate others, including teams, and challenge individuals to come up with new ideas. Able to translate complex information into simple, understandable steps. Respected by peers and management for both attitude and work ethic.
