Application Trainer
Title: Application Trainer Location: Cherry Hill, NJ Type: Permanent Primary Role: Develops and conducts technical training programs for business staff members. Formulates curriculum outlines and recommends instructional methods. Understands the technical topics covered in training programs by interviewing product developers, observing performance in the field and/or referring to application specifications. Develop strong working relationships as a liaison between business users in all ongoing and refresher training efforts. Focuses on servicing application training needs with exceptional customer focus and expertise in classroom instruction, field training, and continual course development. Key Accountabilities: Follows Corporate policies and procedures including, but not limited to, Change Control, project management methodology, SOX controls. Occasionally leads efforts toward continuous process improvement of internal Business Transition processes in order to meet changing business unit conditions. Project Requirements: Conducts training needs analyses for a variety of applications, including desktop applications,company-specific software solutions, ERP systems, etc. Designs and develops course materials such as handouts, manuals, job aids and exercises. Delivers training programs in a group classroom setting, online through an e- learning or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), or occasionally on a one-on-one basis. Works with business analysts to document State-specific functionality or other unique features/functionality/business rules in end user training materials. Works with implementation consultants/contractors to develop training plans, curriculums and schedules as needed. Develops the approach to preparing the learning environment and resources, including training database-refresh schedule. Develops and executes software testing scripts. Develops, delivers and supports post-implementation refresher training programs and materials. Provides some input to service and support plans. Provides some application support for all training ‘how-to’ related service tickets. Conducts peer reviews of materials produced by team members. Possesses understanding of relevant aspects of current and new software rollouts to ensure ongoing improvement of technical training. Develops efforts to implement marketing and communication strategies regarding training initiatives. Represents IT on the American Water Learning Council and provides input to company-wide training initiatives as needed. Provides feedback on current eLearning trends and how to incorporate best practices and techniques. Takes responsibility for maintenance of hardware and software used for training purposes. Remains current with relevant systems/software as well as training trends and is able to incorporate best practices and techniques. Required Skills: Minimum 3-5 years of IT experience with at least 1 year of emphasis on developing and delivering technical training to end users. Experience on projects that have enterprise-wide end-user impact. Experience with Web-Conferencing tools (e.g., WebEx, GoTo Meeting). Experience with eLearning tools (e.g., Captivate, Camtasia, OnDemand). Experience with the utilities industry is desirable but not required. Up to 25% travel as required Bachelors' degree preferred. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree required in a computer-related field. In lieu of computer-related degree, under-graduate degrees in other fields may be considered in conjunction with equivalent work experience Additional Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to absorb and present large amounts of detail through various forms of communications. Ability to facilitate discussions in a mixed technical and business team environment. Strong customer service and interpersonal relationship skills. Strong planning and organizing skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data and procedure manuals. An active learner who is eager to learn new concepts. Knowledge: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and productivity tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, project planning, Lotus Notes). Knowledge of SDLC and PMO methodologies. Understanding of adult learning theory and principles. Some understanding of the impact of technologies on business processes. Some understanding of technical problems and solutions in relation to current and future business environments.
