Embedded Firmware Integration & Test Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES Firmware Engineer (Integration & Test) will be a member of the technical staff in the Engineering Department and be involved in the design, development, and maintenance. Facilitate the design and coding, integrate, and test embedded firmware for various networked / RF / telephony based consumer medical devices; analyze systems and characterize their performance Serve as a key member of the team on the development of a highly integrated, low power device for seniors Collaborate closely with the design team through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative, best-in-class designs. Work closely with hardware, embedded firmware and other engineers, leaders and team members cross-functionally (Quality & Regulatory, Project Management, Architecture, etc.). The Firmware Engineer will specifically be responsible for Integrating embedded firmware written by a multi-person team Code builds and firmware releases Assisting in the “shake down” of firmware to discover defects early in the process Design and execution of integration test cases, ensuring firmware builds are stable, are compliant with requirements, and achieve a level of quality sufficient for delivery to a downstream system verification and validation test team Collaborating with, and operating as a member of, the embedded firmware design team ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS BS degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline Expertise in embedded systems, C language, and Configuration Management systems (SVN preferred) Experience debugging embedded networked firmware (RTOS, state machines, communications) Experience analyzing interactions among devices in complex systems, and identifying failure modes. Track record of success in a team environment Minimum five years experience in a firmware development, integration, or testing capacity, in a rigorous quality-focused environment Knowledge of the principles of Systems Thinking / Systems Engineering Knowledge of product development methodologies and best practices Knowledge of verification and validation testing methodologies Ability to build and maintain strong team relationships Excellent oral and written communication skills PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Medical device development experience Experience with RF / cellular devices Understanding of US and international regulatory requirements for medical devices Knowledge of telephony and network communication protocols
