JOB DESCRIPTION: This individual will play a key role delivering entry level production support and production programming for multiple applications within the Consumer Direct environment, within the Personal Insurance line of business. This position offers opportunities to utilize distributed coding and analysis skills, debugging skills, and other technical skills sets. The successful candidate will possess approximately 1 year of experience within the following technologies: * Java * Java Spring Framework * XML * HTML, SQL, Javascript * Knowledge and some experience of Websphere Application Server / JavaBeans Open Source Software (JBOSS) is a definite plus * Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint) products required This role requires working closely with internal business customers and other team members to support the production environment. Proven verbal and written communication skills are an absolute must. Demonstrated analytical skills are an absolute must as the successful candidate must be able to work independently, with minimal direction, and possess the ability to combine seemingly unrelated issues and concepts for detailed troubleshooting purposes. The candidate will be expected to transform system and application issues into future incident free solutions. Additional support functions include discrepancy research and fixes, minor enhancements and business requests, as well as ongoing day to day production support activities, including on-call responsibilities. Other responsibilities will include continual application reviews to provide as needed updates to production documentation, the application inventory database, production checkout scripts and cross training on other supported systems as directed. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Production Support primarily for multiple Consumer Direct applications, selected web services. Additional support will be provided for other applications in the Agent facing application. Work will include, but not be limited to, the following: * Receive, and successfully complete, cross training from other members of the team to gain new knowledge across all supported applications and services. * Taking the initiative to learn all supported applications, to understand the business, training in new technologies, as needed, that complement the needs of the team/department, and to suggest/complete/implement coding recommendations for overall application improvements. * Develop into a capable Production Support team member able to provide ongoing production support (monitoring and operational excellence) activities including on-call coverage (providing pager support). * Work with other members of the team to add business driven small enhancements to the existing systems to include (but not limited to) utilizing alerting and monitoring tools such as Site Scope and Log File Adapters (LFAs). * Ability to transition to larger scale enhancements, given available capacity, on an as needed basis. * Proven and demonstrated ability to anticipate problems and recommend/implement solutions before incidents occur. * Must be proactive with respect to problem prevention; responding to and conducting monitoring and alerting improvements, to include continual documentation updates for knowledge sharing with the team. * Ability to identify and implement optimized code for existing applications/code in order to run more efficiently and reduce costs. * Extensive interaction within the team and other Information Technology departments.
