In this role, the Java software engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining server side applications. The Mill Valley location is focused on delivering high-quality server-side software using the latest technologies and best practices. This position is responsible for the design, development, documentation and maintenance of server-side software systems which support interactive and enhanced TV services and applications. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in object-oriented programming, experience developing large-scale, high-volume software systems and is comfortable working with other team members in a collaborative development environment. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Participate in complete software development life cycle from functional specification to production system support - Design and develop applications planning for reliability, security, manageability, scalability, extensibility, performance and re-use - Perform maintenance of existing software components including troubleshooting production issues - Participate in team planning and retrospective meetings - Perform peer design and code reviews - Interact with other cross-functioning teams within the company - Quickly learn new technologies and evaluate their architectural applicability KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED: - 4+ years software engineering development experience programming in Java or C++, at least 2 years of which should be Java. - Object-oriented design experience including familiarity with design patterns and UML - Experience with at least one J2EE Application Server Environment (e.g., JBoss, Weblogic,WebSphere, Resin, Tomcat) - Experience with and an affinity for TDD using one or more unit test frameworks such as TestNG, JUnit or CppUnit - Experience with continuous integration using a CI server such as Hudson, TeamCity or CruiseControl - Experience with automated build tools such as Maven or Ant - Significant experience working in UNIX environments. - Outstanding organizational, interpersonal and communication skills KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION DESIRED - Experience with MVC frameworks such as Spring or Struts - Experience delivering large-scale, high-traffic software systems - Experience with Service Oriented Architectures and Enterprise Application Integration patterns - Experience with Agile software development methodologies - Familiarity with XML and XML-related technologies such as XSD, XSLT - Knowledge of RDBMS concepts, SQL and object-relational (O-R) technologies such as Hibernate or JDO - Detailed working knowledge of networking and communication protocols such as IP and HTTP(s) - Experience with JMX or other software configuration management frameworks. - Experience with JMS or other messaging technologies. - Other web development including HTML, Javascript, Perl, CGI - Experience with Puppet or other configuration management systems - Familiarity with Interactive TV server technologies - BS or higher degree in Computer Science or equivalent Join TEKsystems() and get your career on the fast track.
