Technical Author – 6mth contract
Based in Paddington Visa Europe is a membership association - an organisation owned and operated by its 4,500 European member banks. In October 2007, Visa Europe became independent of the new global Visa Inc., with an exclusive, irrevocable and perpetual licence in Europe. As a dedicated European payment system it is able to respond quickly to the specific market needs of European banks and their customers – cardholders and retailers, and to meet the European Commission’s objective to create a true internal market for payments. Visa enjoys unsurpassed acceptance around the world. In addition, Visa/Plus is one of the world’s largest global ATM networks, offering cash access in local currency in over 170 countries. Job Purpose: Produce technical information such to help users and service support teams understand the product functionality and operation. The material produced will be designed to allow the audience to use a particular product function or understand a product subject area. Explain technical information in an easy to understand way. This involves interpreting technology or applications and then designing and writing documentation. The information may be presented in the form of user guides for software applications, reference manuals, training guides or online help incorporated into software and operating guides. Contribute to the provision of packages of assistance including software demos and interactive tutorials, in a range of media such as video, PowerPoint, illustrations and graphics. Core Task: Collaborating with developers and managers to clarify technical issues Meeting colleagues to discuss authoring requirements liaising with subject matter experts Researching and gathering the information required Deciding how best to organise and present the document Writing the material clearly and concisely, making sure it can be easily understood Editing, proofreading and indexing Testing the written material with users. Working hours are usually Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. However the technical author may be required to work longer hours to finish specific project artefacts on time. Essential Skills A clear and concise writing style A flair for turning technical subjects and jargon into easily understood text The ability to absorb information quickly An analytical mind and an inquisitive nature A curiosity about how things work. A flexible and ‘can do’ attitude. Excellent interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain close relationships with departments within and external to TPS (IT) Ability to work autonomously and with a strong sense of initiative and of ownership. Desirable Skills Experience of the Card Payments industry Consultancy experience Technical background Understanding of the 4 party model Education/Qualifications: Educated to degree level (preferably in an IT, business related or analytical subject). Travel: The position is based in Paddington, with the potential for travel to the Reading or Basingstoke office, and on some occasional travel to member bank sites.
