Mintwood Media Collective Seeking Communications Assistant Description The Mintwood Media Collective is an independent public relations firm in Washington, D.C. Mintwood is currently seeking an independent contractor to work as a Communications Assistant to handle various assignments on behalf of the firm. The Communications Assistant’s primary role will be to provide additional capacity for Mintwood’s responsibility in running a press office for the socially responsible company Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. The Communications Assistant will provide support for media outreach around new product launches, company news, as well as brand activism and cause marketing campaigns related to the company. The assistant will be responsible for researching target media contacts; making pitch calls; developing relationships with journalists; maintaining organized press lists and performing other administrative duties relating to media outreach. Salary: $3,125 per month. (Working Mon.-Fri. 9am-6pm. 40 hours per week). Starts August 27, 2012 Position Objective: To assist with media outreach and provide support for press office activities of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps; the hemp industry; Fair Trade; organic standards; and other related projects and campaigns. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Media outreach: Including targeted pitch and follow-up calls for new products and other company developments for Dr. Bronner’s; news relating to Hemp History Week and the hemp industry; Fair Trade; organic standards and other cause marketing and activist campaigns Research, development and maintenance of target press lists; Tracking of media coverage Press kit assembly and media mailings Other responsibilities: Data Entry Office admin assistance Fielding media inquiries Drafting and copy editing letters, talking points, other documents Performing any other duties assigned by Mintwood Position Requirements: Degree in a related field (ie. Journalism, Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing) or equivalent experience Proven exceptional verbal communication and phone skills Proven excellent writing and editing abilities Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and work independently Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through Demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete assignments on deadline Must own a computer to use at Mintwood office (desk space provided) Must be able to lift and carry small packages of at least 20 lbs. Proficiency in Microsoft office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Must be available 9am-6pm Mon. – Fri. Additional Desired Qualifications: Experience with activist campaigns Experience working in the natural products industry Experience working with a wide range of people from a variety of different backgrounds Ability to be available for early-morning or late-evening conference calls, events, and other activities Interested in the possibility of building a long-term working relationship with Mintwood Keywords: Public relations
