Technical Author A prerequisite for this position is good working knowledge of Adobe Frame Maker 9/10. Experience of creating illustrations or working with illustrators to create illustrations. AutoCAD experience. Summary Requirements: The Technical Publications area of the Engineering department produces the technical documentation required to commission, use and maintain the Company's products effectively and safely. The Technical Author has a vital role to play in producing that documentation. To write, produce and accurately maintain instruction and installation manuals and associated amendments/addendums, including those for non-standard products, to the highest quality and standard for our abatement and related products, in accordance with the house style, on time and within the Engineering Budget. * Degree or HNC/HND in mechanical or electromechanical engineering, appropriate time severed apprenticeships or forces experience will be considered * Five years technical authoring experience in an engineering environment either employed by an engineering company or an agency * Experience as a practising engineer would be an advantage but must have the aptitude to quickly understand a diverse range of products and their applications * Must demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise English by producing previous work * Must be methodical and logical, show attention to detail and demonstrate the ability to work using own initiative * Must be able to accurately interpret mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams networks; also data and instructions given by project engineers and technologists * The ability to suggest meaningful illustrations to substitute for extensive text is a requisite * Must be diplomatic in working with staff at all levels, understanding their commercial priorities * Good computer skills in the use of appropriate software including Microsoft Windows products. A good knowledge and recent use of the long document software called Adobe Frame Maker essential. Familiarity with AutoCAD drawing extraction and viewing * Good presentation skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from various disciplines and levels of seniority
