Illustrator for Horror Comic
Great opportunity for anyone looking to build his or her portfolio, gain exposure, and work on projects with a high degree of collaboration and creative input. Our production company is creating a horror comic, which will be total of 144 pages, released in 4 separate installments. We are seeking an artist to collaborate on the conceptual art, pencils, and inks for the 1st book (36 pages) and the 1st cover. We will have other artists for the lettering and coloring. We need a talented artist who has a very thorough understanding of narrative and visual storytelling and can meet deadlines, act with professionalism, take direction when needed, and can devote the time to make illustrations of the highest possible caliber. You will be meeting face-to-face with the writer to block the story out, then collaborating via skype to complete the piece, including the inking and coloring. The process will involve several rounds of revisions, you will also be a key voice, along with the writer/creator, as to book's final layout and design. We are looking for someone with prior comic book/graphic novel knowledge and experience,who understands a comic book aesthetic, and can produce work that is bold, engaging, evocative, and shows tension, has a firm grasp of lettering, page layout, and illustration, has a very firm grasp of visual storytelling and can utilize a digital workflow. We offer 5% royalties and a payment of $250.00 upon completion of first book, and we are willing to negotiate royalties and upfront monetary compensation if artist is interested in doing entire series. We are a production company that has successfully produced 2 comic books, which will be available for sale in July 2012. We have another 4 long-format graphic novels in production. We are touring the comic convention circuit this summer and fall (to build interest in our books and brand) and we are pitching to several major publishers. More info can be found on our website. However, there is a mandatory meeting at our offices in Brooklyn where we will block out a rough draft of the entire issue in one day. Dark Ink Pictures will cover the cost of meals and the workspace. We are willing to work with artists outside the greater NYC area, as long as they are able to travel to Brooklyn for this meeting.
