Position: Sr. Oracle RAC DBA Start date: ASAP Location: Fort Worth, Texas * Candidates MUST be local to Dallas / Fort Worth * Please no 3rd party candidates Summary Statement: The Oracle Database Administrator will have primary responsibility for maintaining numerous database schemas in support of multiple application development efforts. Major technical duties include installation and upgrade of database products, automation of routine database administration tasks, maintaining the physical database structure, backup and recovery, root cause analysis, monitoring and tuning performance, and maintaining database security. The DBA will also play a role in production configuration and automation for the software products currently being developed. In addition, the DBA will assist with Customer deployments including build out of environments, data conversion, and production support. Primary personnel interfaces associated with this position will be with designers, architects, developers, quality assurance testers, system administrators, and application support representatives. Qualifications: BA or BS in Computer Information Sciences or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 8 years of Oracle DBA experience especially administering Oracle 10g and/or Oracle 11g databases in both development and production environments with the ability to maintain the physical database structure when referential integrity exists. At least 8 years of experience administering Oracle databases within a Unix or Linux operating system (IBM AIX and Suse Linux preferred) including familiarity of operating system commands to monitor and diagnose system performance and space utilization. Experience with Oracle backup utilities RMAN and Data Pump. Experience with Oracle ASM or understanding of general ASM concepts. Experience with Oracle RAC or understanding of general RAC concepts. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, DataGuard (or Streams), and GoldenGate would be a plus, but not required. Ability to code, maintain, interpret, and document SQL and PL/SQL scripts to manage the Oracle environment. Experience with developing, troubleshooting, and documenting shell scripts and Perl scripts would be a plus. *** Candidates with data warehouse implementation experience will be given higher consideration. *** Description of Responsibilities: Install, upgrade, patch, and maintain database environments. In conjunction with designers, architects, and developers, define new database objects or modifications to existing objects in accordance to existing database standards. Track database changes using a source control tool for multiple software products. Use software tools and/or automated scripts to monitor performance and space utilization in order to tune as required. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to identify and remove detrimental locking scenarios. Identify poor performing SQL statements and provide assistance in tuning to improve performance. This includes, but is not limited to, re-writing SQL statements, creating new indexes and altering existing indexes. As necessary, code, maintain, and document SQL, shell, and Perl scripts needed in support of multiple software products. In conjunction with security and privacy policies, establish and manage role-based access. Create, maintain and refresh required instances/databases/schemas for development, quality assurance, performance, and demonstration purposes. Setup, testing, implementation, and maintenance of backup and recovery strategies using Oracle utilities. As required, help identify and resolve database-related application problems. Proactively monitor production systems and coordinate outages to perform maintenance in order to prevent unplanned downtime. Act as liaison between application developers and database vendor to report and resolve problems on a timely basis. Work independently to track outstanding tasks, monitor progress, plan workload and dependencies, and provide daily status of activities required to meet project goals. Must be available after normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to assist and support the company while on-call and when needed during special circumstances. Work in a team environment to coordinate, organize, and track multiple tasks effectively and meet project deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff of varying technical expertise.
