Linux Systems Administrator
Our client is seeking a Linux System Administrator for their El Segundo, California location. Responsibilities: * Provide comprehensive system administration for a large number of UNIX and Linux nodes including, but not limited to SUN, and HP * Monitor, maintain and patch production systems * Assist in the migration from FreeBSD to Scientific Linux * Install, configure, test, and implement new systems or application software * Identify, analyze, and resolve software and hardware related problems * Monitor and tune system and network resources to optimize applications * Analyze, implement and audit host systems and network security * Install and administer firewalls to ensure the preservation of enterprise data * Review and deploy UNIX and Linux system releases for vendor-supplied patches; patches will also need to be reviewed to ensure compliancy with security polices and licensing agreements * Support installation and license management of scientific/engineering applications such as MATLAB, IDL, mathematic and compliers * Develop, implement and monitor effective backup and recovery tools and processes * Develop and deploy tools for centralized file maintenance and distribution to include installation and administration of NAS and SAN storage systems; this also includes volume management and storage allocation * Create and modify user accounts and printer queues * Create and maintain technical documentation for system admin team and others * Provide technical input for strategic planning and acquisition The successful applicant will possess the following requirements (items are required unless noted otherwise): * Strong knowledge of FreeBSD is a must * Experience with UNIX \Linux system administration, configuration and day to days operations * Knowledge of protocols and standards including Solaris 10, RedHat, CentOS, Scientific Linux FreeBSD, Fedora and LDAP * Experience with the administration of a High Performance Computing environment; Ability to collaborate with others * Solid verbal and written communication skills * Knowledge of VMware ESX server and Sun Ray Server software is a plus * Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or related field * Minimum of 4 years related experience * CompTIA certification in Network+ Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
