Responsibilities include creating character/cinematic/environmental animations using principles such as staging, posing, weight, composition, and timing according to defined quality standards, artistic styles, conceptual designs, development pipelines, technical parameters and production goals. Must possess ability to effectively collaborate with a wide-range of development team members outside of direct discipline such as Art Director, Designers, Technical Artist, Animators, Programmers and Producers to optimally achieve artistic goals and implementation as they relate to design and technological considerations. Summary list of typical duties and responsibilities of the job or essential functions) Is a contributor to the development of the artistic techniques and processes utilized to define and achieve a product’s visual style or encourage artistic evolution within the studio. This entails expanding methods to improve the production pipeline, tools, systems and visual integrity. Maintains the artistic goals and vision through all phases of the game development cycle from pre-production through final product release. This entails ensuring animation assets are of the highest artistic quality and uphold the integrity of the games design and artistic vision of the game as a whole. Maintain a good knowledge of the games design to facilitate communication and enable early identification of issues. Undertakes research and information gathering prior to the commencement of a new task to ensure game design needs, reference materials, artistic direction and technological considerations are effectively managed to meet defined goals. Facilitates requests or information needs regarding any aspect of the animation creation process as requested. Capable of resolving a range of complex artistic development issues for both artists as well as other team members. Actively improves skill set and abilities by keeping aware of industry trends and techniques, evaluating competitive products, learning new software packages and traditional art methods. Possess strong time management and prioritization skills. This entails collaborating with the Production group to coordinate task lists to ensure assignments are progressing as expected according to schedules, milestones and overall project goals. Clearly communicate updates and properly escalate concerns to the appropriate team member(s) and manager(s). May serve as an artistic resource for overall product or studio needs. This includes, but is not limited to conducting general research, developing cutting-edge techniques and testing new systems or tools. techniques, providing training, transmitting industry related information and conveying concerns. May also represent the studio in outside art related discussions where so required. Job Specifications: (Job Specifications - Lists out the job requirements that must be meet to perform the position( i.e: Number of Subordinates; Knowledge specifications, Freedom to Act (what level of autonomy or judgment are freely made in the position; sign-off or budgetary responsibility, What level direction is given from management; Problem complexity in role; and What is the level of impact the role has to business unit or company.) Knowledge Specifications: Strong 3D animation skills, training and production experience (Game animation.) Proficient in the use of Maya (or 3d animation package). Premiere/After Effects experience desirable. Familiarity with video game product development including, but not limited to workflow, tools, in-game 3D animation, motion capture, rigging, character skinning, scripting, cameras, cinematic animation and setup, and engine parameters/compression/optimizations desirable. Some previous or next-gen video game platform experience is desirable (e.g. PS2, PS3, X-box, X-box 360 etc.) Good communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills. Freedom to Act: (what level of judgment discretion or autonomy does position have) Works under limited direction to determine and develop approach to solutions. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Contacts primarily with colleagues within PD department and occasional inter-organizational and outside contacts to exchange information needed to perform functions. Problem Complexity: (means of arriving at solutions) Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems. Analysis required to identify and research information related to problems and form solutions based on existing guidelines. Uses judgment within defined policies and practices. Level of Impact: Contributes to the development of department’s goals and objectives. Education & Experience: Minimum 3 years industry experience or related experience. 1 or more published titles considered a strength. - and - B.A. in fine arts or relevant curriculum. - or - Equivalent skillset
