Clinical Research Associate - Oncology - Medical Writing Academic Writing
The Organization: Kaleidoscope Strategic, an Oncology-focused medical communication firm located in Toronto, Canada, is seeking a highly detail-oriented and personable clinical research associate with a science or medical background to compliment an experienced medical research and writing team. The firm specializes in the development of manuscripts for publication in premier peer-reviewed medical oncology journals. Our work has appeared in The Lancet Oncology, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, The Oncologist, and Cancer. Our firm is continually looking for qualified freelance clinical research associates. We are offering this qualifying assignment as a means of screening candidates for this position and those candidates who perform well will be invited to interview process. General Description: Virtual collaborator with regular, specific direction and coaching from general editor and lead research and writing staff All work is project and deadline driven; work will be project-focused and between 20 to 40 hrs per week (flexible) from August 1, 2012 onward Researcher will maintain independent contractor status and must have consistent availability during Canadian/US EST working hours (9am-5pm) and flexibility near project deadlines Hourly rate within range of $24/hr - $27/hr (CAD), commensurate with experience and qualifications Clinical Research Associate Responsibilities: Support team by ensuring accuracy in all types of work output - literature searches, data extractions and summaries, manuscript text, and verbal/written communication Conduct literature searches Retrieve and organize articles using Endnote reference library and company archives Accurately extract and summarize data from clinical research papers and oncology conference proceedings Proofread and edit medical research and clinical review manuscripts, scientific tables, and graphs Develop tables and figures, highlighting key research findings Verify data in graphs, tables and text against source to ensure accuracy Adeptly analyze, interpret, and synthesize oncology research findings Draft clear, concise medical copy for an academic audience Candidate Qualifications: Career freelance medical researcher, enjoys freelance lifestyle; committed availability for stable part-time or full-time work Perennial student ability to quickly master new areas, graciously accept feedback, and apply lessons learned Independent and resourceful, yet seeks direction or clarification when needed Exceptional analytical and organizational skills - able to manage and prioritize large volumes of information and ensure consistent workflow Competency in advanced search techniques for literature and clinical trial databases: 1) PubMed 2) Cochrane 3) Specific Journal Archives 4) Clinicaltrials.gov High professional standards in work - exacting and meticulous, ACCURACY is paramount; highly organized and efficient; advanced time management skills; ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines Excellent interpersonal skills - works well with other team members; responsive, communicates proactively; positive & appreciative attitude Proven proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro (NOT simply Acrobat Reader), Microsoft Office (especially Word/Excel) and Thomson Endnote Excellent verbal and written English Requirements: PhD or Masters in biomedical or clinical research Three years experience as a cross-functional team member in a directed environment Two years experience actively working in the field of Medical Oncology Equipment & Infrastructure: Computer, high-speed internet access, dedicated phone line Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Thompson Endnote, Skype, Mikogo Desired Skills: Medical Writing Academic Writing Keywords: Academic Writing
