Preferred Background/Education B.S. in science, engineering, or technology discipline preferred. Verifiable industry experience with engineered products, especially technical communication experience with engineered (mechanical/hardware) products considered in lieu of B.S. degree. Verifiable internal product domain experience and applicable business system experience considered. Work Environment Technical Communications personnel refer to product engineering files: such as drawings, associated parts lists, and specifications; in order to re-purpose information for end-user installation, operating, and maintenance persons. Technical Communication Specialists must be able to read top-level assembly or general arrangement drawings and associated parts lists from the product data management system. Depending on the type of product being documented, the appropriate manual or training document type, as well as, required content for that document must be researched, assembled, reviewed, approved, and published onto the management system. Competent communication and collaboration is required with engineers, technologists, and technicians to obtain background information for product documentation as well as coordinate reviews and approval by SMEs and operations support engineers. Technical Communications Specialists either report directly to the technical communications manager or technical communications lead and work on site at the facility. Job Details Requires Soft Skills Strong organizational skills Advanced verbal and written communication skills Strong team interaction skills Self-starting attitude Highly motivated toward delivering accurate, timely user documentation with minimal supervision Competent in understanding technical concepts and overall engineered system features and functions Strong collaboration and negotiation skills Ability to manage multiple technical communication projects with firm deadlines Verifiable experience or ability in reading and understanding engineering design graphics (assembly and sub-assembly drawings with item/part numbers) and understanding part fastening/connection relationships Ability to efficiently multitask and switch gears rapidly as priorities change Ability to develop text content, tabular content, and graphic media to contribute to fit-for purpose product operating and maintenance manuals Ability to work to and complete assignments from high-level documentation plans for new product development projects by collaborating lead and specialists, as well as, engineering project managers Computing Skills: Advanced PC desktop application experience (MS-Word, MS-Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat) Content Management System experience preferred (Documentum, EDMS, or equivalent system for modular document authoring and reuse) Advanced graphics application experience (Adobe Illustrator, MS-Visio), and experience with industry-standard vector and bitmapped file types. Advanced survey or assessment application experience (Questionmark Perception or equivalent) Experience with client-server based databases and helpdesk applications with structured workflow product-line specific duties Must be able to understand the different types of domain-specific products and systems and their main applications in well completions or production services Must be able to understand and internalize high-level theory of operations of domain-specific products and systems Must be able to deliver new product development documentation developed per concurrent life cycle management process. This typically includes operating manuals and client manuals for permanent-installation products, maintenance manuals for company-owned assets, and technology based training for new product basic introduction. Sustaining documentation for existing products in the portfolio, as they are revised and improved (major production revisions or modification recaps/field change orders). Response documentation for products that entail quick changes in seal and metal components, but retain original configuration. Orders for product documentation are managed via a documentation priority list database for the client and other product groups. Note: Contract positions as a Technical Communications Specialist will focus on implementation and closure of sustaining change requests (change requests for existing product documentation such as maintenance manuals and technology-based training.
