JAM Animations ( ) is producing a short film entitled, "The Castle in the Forest". This is a short story based on a Jewish folk tale, about a religious man who encounters an evil force, unintentionally bargains with the devil - then outwits the entity with his cunning, bravery and faith. Run-time will be approximately 25 minutes (final run-time to be determined by final audio track) The selected studio will be working closely with a JAM Animations Director who will provide feedback and guidance throughout the project. JAM Animations will also provide the following resources: Script and screenplay Basic character designs (2-D sketches) Audio rough track (for animatic) Final audio track (with voice talent, sound effects and music) The selected studio will be responsible for: Final character designs, skinning & rigging Background, scenery, props and location production Virtual camera and lighting effects Full character animation and lip sync Rendering output to multimedia formats Other notes: The primary story takes place in 18th century Europe (1792, Ukraine). There will be 2 "flashback" voice-over sequences in alternate time periods/locations. These will be created in 2-D animation and commissioned to a separate animation studio - to be inserted in post production. There are about 20 locations or sets that will need to be created (a detailed list will be provided to interested studios) - a mix of interior and exterior shots - some in daylight and some lit by moonlight or flame (no electric light). There are about 30 characters to be created (a detailed list will be provided to interested studios) - about 15 will have speaking parts . The majority of the dialog will take place between the central character (Shmuel), the Rebbe Wolf, Shmuel's wife (Dvoire), Yaakov, and the Old Man - other dialog is very sparse (a few short lines here and there). There is an action sequence towards the end of the film that will require some fantasy/special effects wizardry (mystical serpents, wolves, flames, green smoke and other dark, mysterious and frightening elements). There are a couple scenes that involve horse-drawn wagons/carriages. In addition to some pre-production character design sketches - JAM Animations will provide other visual references for locations, props, costumes, etc, to maintain historical accuracy.
