Engine Development Engineer

Job Location: Cambridgeshire Job Position: Engine Development Engineer Job Status: Contract Job Profile: A Senior Engineer is required within our clients Engine Development Department. This department has responsibility for the build, verification and validation testing of prototype diesel engines, for both current product and new product introduction projects. Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience: You must be an experienced Engine Development Engineer, with previous experience of devising testing of Engines and relaying to Test engineers and Technicians to carry this out. You must be degree educated in an Automotive Engineering subject or be a time served Engineer in a similar role with a minimum of HND. You must have previous experience of the development and implementation of best practises within a testing facility. You will need to have experience of training engineers or technicians within a test facility. You must have previous experience of working in a prototype engine test or development environment. You must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of base engine fundamentals. You must have excellent English written and communication skills as you will be expected to communicate with customers and internal staff within numerous different departments. You must have logical problem solving skills, along with the tenacity to ensure that results are delivered 'right first time' and within quality and time targets. You must be self-motivated and able to work on own initiative. You must be committed to continuous improvement, with an understanding of 6 Sigma Job Description: You will be responsible for the Technical & operational leadership of Test Engineers, setting highest standards for others to follow. You will be responsible for the Development & implementation of best practices, such as procedures, processes, standard work, metrics, tools and relationships with customers and internal teams to improve test data quality and work throughput. You will be responsible for the Mentoring, Coaching and Development of Test Engineers. You will support the development and implementation of new test facility, processes and test procedures. You will be responsible for the leadership & support of process and facility improvement team projects, including use of Standard Work, CPS and 6 Sigma techniques. You will be responsible for delivering engine testing activities as per department plan. You will prepare and deliver technical presentations to Test Engineering and other associated departments. You will provide support to advanced planning team & processes to ensure that engine and all required test equipment is available in advance. You will form a close partnership with customers and Technicians, maximising test cell utilisation and deliver customer requirements as specified in the department plan. You will be responsible for creation & management of Test Manager instructions for engine installation, removal, testing, daily checks, servicing & rework. You will be responsible for progression of test cell and engine mechanical issues, and communication of progress to customer. You will carry out communication and tracking of engine mechanical defects and failures (joint responsibility with Technician group), ensuring failed components are available for component teams to analyse. You will carry out data analysis, tracking and recognition of discrepancies in engine performance & endurance test data using best practices. You will work with Facilities to develop test & instrumentation strategies. You will carry out engine and component strip assessment, concerning identification & technical report writing. You will define & maintain metrics to drive improvement actions. You will be creating and updating engine test procedures, including the change management with affected customer groups. Salary/Rate: From £19 to £32 per hour on a limited company basis. This will be dependant on previous experience.
