Design - Website design - Intuitive diamond search page for Carat Studio
Organization name Carat Studio Description of the organization and its target audience Our goal is to create a better, simpler and more intuitive diamond search experience. Sites like Bluenile.com have come a long way from the Tiffany’s of the world, in that they remove the high pressure environment of buying at a retail store and paying retail markups. They also give you all the tools that you need in their diamond search to be able to play around with the cut, color, clarity etc... to narrow down to the diamond you want. They break down, however, when it comes to two diamonds that look exactly the same in cut, color, clarity and carat weight, but are different by over $3,000. Our revolutionary diamond ranking system takes into account over 10 variables about the diamond to give you a score of how the diamond rates against the rest of the diamonds. These 10 variables go above and beyond any diamond website or retailer today to give you expert advice and confidence when choosing your diamond. Our target audience is male, 25-35. Many of our customers are New York or California based professionals that have completed or are in Bschool, work in finance, startups, lawyers, doctors, engineers and creative fields. Industry Retail Existing website to reference not live Number of pages needed 1 Page descriptions Diamond Search Landing Page: We are looking to revamp our current diamond search landing page (see attached image below). BlueNile.com type sites are able to give you all the tools you need to play with the color, cut, clarity etc to get you closer to what you are looking for but they do it at the cost of complicating the interface which makes it cumbersome and clumsy. We are looking for a cleaner, simpler more intuitive way for searching and browsing diamonds online. This page will also serve as our landing page and therefore it should be intuitive what we do and the value we offer. This page will allow guys to quickly search for diamonds and compare prices. Call to action - 1. Call our number to get in touch with us 2. Send us an inquiry via email for the stones they selected 3. Refer a friend via social sites like facebook, linkedin, etc. or email. Search form - I like the way Tiffany has the search options at the bottom and a browse section in the center for the person to be able to visually browse through the rings. I also like the way James Allen uses the diamond photos and has a simpler diamond search than blue nile that takes up less space at the top. Search results - Ideally we should display the following characteristics about a diamond in the results as well as the diamond picture to show the visitor the differences between the diamonds they are searching for.... however if you have something a little more creative, we would love to see that. 1. Stock number 2. Shape 3. Carat weight 4. Color Grade 5. Clarity Grade 6. Cut Grade 7. Polish 8. Symmetry 9. Price per Carat 10. Total Price 11. Lab 12. Quality Description 13. Fluorescence 14. Diamond Quality Score Stats - it should display cool stats like: total number of diamonds found and total inventory value As featured in - there should be a section that shows which magazines/newspaper articles we have been featured in. Email capture - "Get email updates for the latest diamonds between 2 to 3 carats" followed by email address box and "save alert" button to capture leads. Footer: Here is where we can add some social media and refer a friend concepts.I'm thinking have our story on left side, Follow us links and a "Schedule an appointment section" so that we can contact the visitor back with more information by email, set up a face to face or phone call. Style/theme ideas for the website None specified. What to avoid Avoid complicated, over engineered, and out of-the-box designs. The site should not make you feel cheap, sleazy, confused or lost. It should be a new, trustable site that builds your confidence and makes you want to tell your friends about it! Inspirational websites http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds-search/ Jamesallen.com – allows you to see the diamond pictures but does not give you an easy way to browse and compare diamonds that the list view has. We are looking for some kind of hybrid approach that is more intuitive. http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search Bluenile.com – gives guys all the tools they need to search but is too complicated and not intuitive. The design and colors of the site also make it very trustworthy, professional, and knowledgeable. http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/B…cat=148203 Tiffany.com – like the search options at the bottom and the way they showcase the rings going across. Simple and clean design. www.Mbusa.com Mercedes – like the way it allows you to customize your car and build it using different features. It is also very engaging to a male audience. Gilt.com and Jetsetter.com Gives a nice clean way and visual way of browsing. Also gives a luxurious feel. www.net-a-porter.com www.davidyurman.com www.swarovski.com www.pandora.net www.burberry.com Notes None specified. Content management system Notsure (Note: This is a design contest only. No coding is required.)
